YOP8 – Week 21/52

On Tuesday I finished the 1st sock of the pair that were going to be for my dad, but it will be too big for him, so they are now for my husband, but he asked if I could add some elastic to the cuff!  So some appeals for ideas on a sock knitting group on Ravelry, I have been given some ideas on how to knit a new cuff and cut off the old (they are a top down pattern).  So after a couple of days thinking about it I decided to have a break from the socks and knit something else.  Then spent the rest of the week trying to pick a pattern and yarn combo to work on.  I did do some more spinning of the camel silk blend and chain plied some…not my best chain ply as some look core spun.  Oh and I have been doing my backdoor Shetland spinning before bed (that may sound odd if you haven’t read previous posts).

I have gone back on antidepressants and hopefully they’ll start to kick in, in a few weeks.  In the meantime, I am going to try to get some structure back to my days.  My decluttering has continued and this week I dropped off a massive suitcase full of clothes I haven’t worn for years.  Plus some other bags of random things I no longer need.  But my creative juices have not been flowing this week.

Next week I will have some photos and new creations.

  1. You could try putting in a life line just below where you plan to cut if you’re worried about the stitches dropping, you can do it also with your needles and then cut. You will do great though and with a new cuff the socks will be perfect for your husband, I’m sure. Hoping that with both your medication and more structure to your days that you feel better soon.

  2. I hope that the antidepressants go to work for you soon!
In the past I have gotten thin elastic thread and just sewn it into sock tops. I just turned the sock inside out and did a sort of running stitch, threading the needle under knit stitches and pulling the thread over purls. I don’t know if that is a possibility for this particular sock, but it has worked for me. Without reknitting, that’s the only thing I can think of for that.

  3. I went back on antidepressants and anti anxiety medication earlier this year. I do not regret it! Things are so much better. I feel like myself again.

I’ve never used elastic and although I have knit socks I wouldn’t call myself a sock knitter. But I have pulled out cuffs and reknit them, even if it was a cast on edge. It worked fine. You can do it!

  4. To be honest, I would frog and start anew. I don’t trust myself with scissors around knitting. 😉 By the way, casting on a new project is always a good coping strategy, I speak from experience. LOL. I hope everything works out just the way you wanted to. Fingers crossed.
