YOP10 Week 12/52 – Havana, ooh na-na

Crochet

Have you heard the song Havana by Camila Cabello? No? Well I will be kind and not share the link to it. It’s a good song but a total ear worm and with me crocheting so much of Havana this week it has been in my head a lot. (That or the song Zoom by Fat Larry’s Band, thanks to all the zoom meetings recently.)

I have part 6 to finish and then part 7 and then I will see how much yarn is left. I’m thinking I will likely not have enough for a border so will either leave a fringe or weave in ends. I have been doing 2 pattern repeats for each section except for the 4th which I did one, as my sums were telling me I didn’t have enough for 2 repeats of all 7.

Dyeing

I have had an idea to dye some self striping socks! If I knit the start of a sock with an undyed skein I should be able to estimate how much needs to be dyed in each colour. This could be a disaster but we shall see next week.

Felting

I have been working on another batch of fairies including some Halloween fairies as gifts and shop.

Other News

Well I am having real issues remembering to take my Vitamin B12 supplements which are to help my memory!!! You couldn’t make it up. This week my memory has really been hopeless, but there is a lot going on with the AGMs for the Guild and Camera Club and getting ready for new seasons via Zoom. I’m hoping once the paperwork side of life subsides for a bit that will help.

I posted earlier this week a Q&A about colour, a post about me organising my craft room into zones and another Garden Diary post! A busy week for the blog.

My car, which has been on our drive with a dead battery for months, was jump started and dropped off for repairs, servicing and MOT. It has required full new brakes, battery and some other bits and the bill was £1,040!!!! I need to make a decision about whether to sell the car or keep it. We’ve managed fine without using mine for 6 months but then after lockdown maybe I will miss having it if I sold it. Hmmm in the meantime weekly trips with Ylva to the beach will happen from next week and that should help the new battery.

Just before I go, on Saturday I started to turn our 5 small conifers into minions!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 10th year, but this is my 3rd year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry.

  1. Minions! What a fab idea! Can you imagine the dirty looks Steve is giving me right now, for mentioning that a Minion hedge all around our property would probably help keeping the neighbours from backing into said hedge… Your Havana is looking great – and thanks for the earworm. NOT. LOL. (Honestly, you have no idea how much I despise that song.) As for dyeing sock yarn – have you tried sock blanks yet? They used to be all the rage a few years ago, maybe worth looking into.

  2. You are amazing! Minions in your yard…how cool!!! They’re looking good! Your Havanna is also looking really good! I have to put your blog on my list so I don’t miss the ones in the middle of the week! Car maintenance is expensive….keep selling those fairies! LOL! I love the colors of your Havanna and it looks like the people who make it really enjoy it. Take care and don’t forget to take your vitamin B12! I make a list every morning and online there is a free program called Dynalist that really helps too. Good luck!

  3. Your Havana is great! I have enjoyed doing the twisted fringe on mine. I will need to even all of them out when I finish it, but at least they are all knotted at this point. So it shouldn’t take too much time to even them out. It takes so much yarn for the borders she does. It takes almost as much for the double border as it does for the entire blanket!

Car repairs are expensive. What a dilemma for you. Hubby and I survived on one car for year but I don’t know if we could do that now. We both like to be able to just get up and go without worrying about transportation.

Your fairies are very pretty and scream fall to me. They should sell quite rapidly for you. And the minion bushes……………precious. I am going to send that photo to my BFF. She will love it too.

  4. Your blanket is looking REALLY beautiful! I love the idea of fringe, I think this is the kind a project that it would really pop on!

That’s a tough rub about the car. A pricy repair, but the convenience of a vehicle at the ready. I’ve had vehicles that were less expensive to replace than fix- but I don’t think you’re there yet.

  5. Your Havana is beautiful, Liz! I just love your colors. And I know you made a funny, but I feel a little bad for laughing at your B12 issue. I hope you make a decision about the car you’re happy with. We always drive our cars ’till they get to that point where we wrestle with how much more to put into them. I’m driving my 2003 CRV and I’m hoping to get another few years out of it before we stop putting money into it. I keep making the argument to husband that a thousand dollars spent to get another few years out of it is a lot of money saved. At some point, though, I know I’ll lose that argument and we’ll be kicking ourselves that we didn’t unload it sooner. And lastly… your minions are great! lol I wonder, though, do you feel like someone is watching you when you back there now?

  6. Oooh I love how your Havana is coming along! So pretty. I also love your fairies they look so ethereal to me. I am sorry to hear about your car that is a real bummer. I am sure that Ylva will love the beach trips though. 😀
