YOP10 Week 49/52 – Shibori and spinning

Dyeing

On Thursday I did a Shibori dyeing day with 3 other ladies from our Guild and it was a great day. I have done a separate post with more pictures you can see, but I will just re-post the one that looks like a dragon face…so cool!

The more I look the more I see of him and I was thinking about hand stitching/quilting him. I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with all the pieces I made.

Felting

The finished rainbow of fairies and baubles were dropped off at the gallery on Tuesday. They are on a separate post. (I’ve decided to split ‘new stock’ from my YOP posts, but I will still add a link, in case those who only follow my Sunday posts are interested.)

I picked out the vegetable matter on 6 x 20cm Shetland pre felt pieces ready to start making some smaller lampshades for the shop. They only have one left in this size in table lamp form, which is more popular than the ceiling ones, so I need to get cracking on those next week.

Knitting

I’ve only added a few rows to my habitation throw! This just wasn’t a knitty week.

Spinning

I have done quite a lot of spinning this week. Almost every day I have done some; getting my knees warmed up for Tour de Fleece later this month. I am so close to finishing the yak/silk blend. For sure next week it will be finished and measured. Its 2 ply and I was thinking it will be used to make a lace scarf.

Wood

Its my birthday today and my husband has been trying to get in touch with the wood turning chap, so I can have another lesson. Fingers crossed that can be arranged.

Other News

I opened a present early, it’s a hammock. I have positioned it where it only gets morning sun and the rest of the time its in the shade. It is also in front of the bird feeders and bird bath so I can spy on the baby blue tits that are now venturing out of our nest box and coming to eat and drink and are also eating bugs off the fences. One got in the window upstairs but managed to get out again unharmed. It was only slightly opened but the baby blue tits are pretty tiny right now. I think they are called chickadees in the US.

I need to cast on a pair of socks and try knitting in my hammock!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 10th year, but this is my 3rd year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry.

  1. I hope your birthday was a happy one, Liz! A hammock sounds like a wonderful gift, and it sounds like you have the perfect set up!

At first I couldn’t see the dragon on the dyed fabric, but once I did, it was so obvious! That’s terrific.
