I better start by saying… if the temperature is over 18°C (64.4°F) I am not very productive at all…this week has had quite a few warm days (21/22°C) and thus you will not see much crafting activity. In fact who knows what I did most of the week other than snooze in the shade, water my plants and pick vegetables. I am behind on reading friends’ blog posts too.
Felting
I started making fairy heads last Sunday night and haven’t managed to progress them beyond that. I also haven’t started on any lampshades either.
Knitting
I decided to go ahead and just knit another ‘tooth’ section of the Mostly Warmness cowl without blocking it first. I haven’t watched the video on garter stitch grafting yet, so that is still to do and hopefully will be finished next week.
I have been doing some of the ribbing on the Lake Reed hat.
Weaving
No progress on my tea towel, it has been too warm to sit in my craft room.
Other News
The one thing I did do was go paddling with some friends on Loch Achilty. They were on stand up paddle boards and I was on my husband’s inflatable canoe. The canoe hadn’t been in water since 1989 (they told me this when I got home!). My friend had picked up a wetsuit in a charity shop for £10 for me and it was a perfect fit and purple! I already had a life vest I bought about 10 years ago that hadn’t been used. A couple of sections of the canoe did deflate and there was a stopper missing but I managed to paddle across the loch without sinking.
I have just ordered myself a stand up paddle board and all the bits, so hopefully that will arrive in a week to 10 days. I have been on a SUP a few times previously and had a go on my friends on the way back across the loch with me towing the little canoe, she wanted to swim! So I hope the good weather now sticks around for a bit. Unfortunately no photo of me at the lake but here’s everything drying when I got back.
I am so glad I live so far north and we haven’t been as hot as the south, there’s been some funny memes about Scots melting above 18°C so although I’m English I have adopted the Scottish melting point.

Gosh yes, the heat has been unbearable! I’ve not been able to go for a run this week I don’t know how people can compete in these temperatures. It sounds as though you picked a good activity for keeping cool.

ha ha, I so understand about adopting the Scottish melting point, I really do nor represent my country of origin as this would be Spring weather over there, and I am melting too!

I don’t think I will ever get used to/function well in the heat, so I completely understand! It’s been hot here too and although we don’t have humidity like you (and many other parts of the US), hot is still hot! Sounds like a very fun day out on the water. Here’s hoping you can enjoy a few water outings before it cools off for the fall. 🙂

It has been hot and humid here in North Carolina as well. The air has been so thick. We’ve also been under air quality alerts due to smoke from the fires out west. So this week I got a lot done because we had to stay in due to air quality. I hope you get some relief from the heat soon! It sounds like you had fun paddle boarding.

Congrats on your paddleboading. My daughter loves to do that too. I think it would be fun but falling into the lakes around here sounds awful. Well, I guess Scotland is good for knitters. I can’t imagine feeling hot at 22C. I got to enjoy my deck for knitting last week since it was 29C here. It’s going to be 34C this week which is too hot even for me. Your backyard looks lovely. What a joy.

Scotland’s highest recorded temperature has only been 32.1°C. I think we would definitely melt at 34° C 🤣

If we were 18C here in Arizona, we would be in winter clothing. Our temps will be back to 39C this week for a few days and that should help dry us out………….I hope. Sounds like you have a grand week of water sports. If it is hot than water sports is the best way to cool off. Fiber arts will be there when the weather gets cool again.

In winter we have our heating set to 18°C, that’s a really comfortable temperature for me. I think I’d be one prickly heat blister in Arizona.

So entertaining to read (the Loch trip) and so fun to go out next time on your own board. It’s quite a “thing” here on Cape Cod. But then our temps are much warmer. We’ve taken the corgis boating around one of the islands close to shore (it’s more like a river separating the land in two) and my daughter takes her Cattle/Aussi dog on her paddle board. I suppose your pup is a bit long in the tooth for that. I’m pleased you’re enjoying summer. My secret shade garden is nearly complete and I’ve enjoyed putting together a few picnics (Fortnum & Mason style). It’s so hot off and on here we alternate between soupy hot air and crops of mushrooms on the lawns. But I’d rather have it ‘Rain on my Parade’ than burn it down like in the West. We’ve even had smoky skies from it here 3000 miles away.
Favorite line: ‘Scottish melting point’. LOL 😂

Our dog doesn’t like to get her paws wet and will go round puddles and if the way is blocked and it looks like she will get wet muddy feet she wants to turn back, so definitely wouldn’t want to go on the board. Are you on Instagram, because I miss reading your blog and seeing your sweet dogs.

So fun to read of your water adventures. I did chuckle at your comment about melting when over 18C. That is barely comfortable for me. I like the house to sit around 20C and outside lately has been mid twenties which is fine by me! The week we had of 39C was crazy and hopefully will not repeat. Love the wet suit and so glad to hear of the paddle board order!

You, like everyone else in my life, will think I am nutz, but I love the heat. I can work for hours outside in 85 degree and hotter temps.

I too melt in the heat. I will simply blame my DNA! Its been in the mid-30s here virtually all summer. The heat makes me super sleepy, and when I sat out on the back deck this afternoon, I almost fell asleep!
