YOP11 Week 19/52 – Mostly Warmness Mitts FO

Felting

I made a couple more Nordic Tomte, one with a crazy moustache I was tempted to keep. I managed to resist him and dropped off 6 tomte and the 2 vegan fairies, I’d made a few weeks ago, at the shop.

Knitting

I finished my Mostly Warmness (Martina Behm) fingerless mittens, that go with the cowl I made earlier. The yarn is a merino/silk single and feels lovely on. It was mild enough on Friday to wear them. I added one extra ‘tooth’ repeat to the pattern and they are very snug.

Finishing these I only had a sock scrap blanket or brioche project on my needles and I still don’t have the brain space to work out how to do brioche cables, thus it being in hibernation.

So I checked my YOP list and saw ‘knit a jumper with the New Lanark Aran wool’ I had in my stash. I have already used another colour of this yarn to make my Such a Winters Day jumper and it is wearing incredibly well. I searched what patterns others had used and found lots had used it to make Kate Davies’s Warriston jumper. I haven’t knitted any of her designs before but I liked the look and it has pockets which would be a first for me, after buying it I realised it’s also my first bottom up pattern. Check me out! Being all adventurous and mixing things up 🤣😂

The yarn is pink but has specs of blue, green and red in it. I cast it on Friday evening, this is a picture of the gauge swatch so you can see the flecks of colour. I’ve only done 14 rows so far so I’ll show it next week.

Other News

I’ve been making a start on relocating shelves and their contents from the kitchen/diner/sunroom so we are ready to install the kitchen when we finally get a date from the joiner. Still have decisions to make about some things and my husband’s laid back attitude is driving me a bit crazy and its giving me sleepless nights.

I wasted a lot of time this week and had more Guild paperwork. It has wasted soooooo much of my time chasing people, it has made me wonder why I ever agree to be on committees. 🙈

I’m going to either do some dyeing or wet felting next week, to make the most of having a functional kitchen before work starts.

  2. That mustache!!!!! So darn cute. I am proud of you for letting it leave your home. The yarn for your jumper is really pretty. Live those little specs in it. Have fun with the bottom up knitting.

  4. The single ply silk/wool yarn of your mitts is sooo pretty. What a joy to wear. Love the swatch so I know the jumper will be gorgeous. Look at you trying all those new things. Good for you. My next cast on is a bottom up tank top. Since it’s for someone else, guess it doesn’t matter if it’s top down or bottom up because they aren’t here to try it on. Even so, I do feel more comfortable with top down. Pockets!! I’ve never done them so I look forward to hearing how they go.

    • The pockets really confused me last night, its a weird construction for sure and the pattern is very brief in its instructions. Thankfully Sarah at Mildly Granola was on hand to help as I knew she’d done them on a few tops.

  6. Love the crazy mustache guy! Too cute! Those mitts remind me of her Hitchhiker shawl which I gave away so I should make another one or those mitts! Really cute! Your sweater in that yarn is going to be gorgeous. I love tweedy yarns. Enjoy your dyeing!

  7. OH MY GOODNESS – those gnomes are fantastic. I don’t know how you part with them!!! My gnome family is growing – I have given away six, but still it is just so lovely to have them looking at me from the window sill in my craft room.

  8. The tomten are the cutest ever!! I’m sure that they will sell in the blink of an eye. I have that mitt pattern and now that I see yours I think that I should going and make myself a pair too. Yours are beautiful and I just love the color.

    • It is a fun and pretty quick knit project and they are also quite good for inside the house. Amazing how having warm wrists makes a difference to your temperature. I bought the yarn because I loved the colour, its so rich and the photos don’t do it justice.
