YOP12 Week 20/52 – FO Shift Cowl and lampshades

Felting

I felted 2 more lampshades and constructed 4 ready to deliver on Monday. I was going to do some more on Thursday but got distracted by watching the all 10 episodes of The Crown whilst knitting!

I added pale purple nepps to one so it looks a little like heather, when lit the purple colour doesn’t come through though and instead they show as shadowy speckles. I added some Teeswater locks to one and its given a lovely sheen.

I also made another landscape bauble but you’ve seen a lot of those in recent weeks.

I have some seascape ones with beaches laid out that I may felt later today.

Knitting

Accessories

I have finished my The Shift cowl by Andrea Mowry. I changed the colour order that she specifies, so that I kept my own teal handspun Falkland merino throughout the whole project. On half it is the background colour and the other it’s the bobbly bits. I also reversed the colour order of sections 1 – 3 for sections 5-7. Personally I much prefer it to her original. In real life the dark purple isn’t so dark.

The other yarns I used were some handspun Bluefaced Leicester/Seacell (grey), some Ripples Crafts Cochrane yarn (dark purple) and some Doulton Flock Border Leicester minis (mid purple and pinkish). All of them are non-superwash, so it should be lovely and warm. The yarns were a mix of 4 ply and sport weight.

I did not block it before sewing it together and once finished I like how much it stands up around my neck so I am not soak and pin blocking it, but I did steam block it just to stop the edge curling.

Jumpers/cardigans

I’m going to add some rows to the sleeves of my Such a Winter’s Day jumper 2, they are definitely a little short for my liking.

Spinning

I made a start on spinning the 2nd batch of US Rambouillet that I bought at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool a few months ago. It’s incredibly soft and a joy to spin. I’ll show a photo once I’ve done enough to ply it.

  1. I just adore your lampshades. How much I would love having those cute sheep on a lamp shade. The cowl did turn out great and I totally agree how nice it looks as is. Just saw that The Crown season has been released. I have a love/hate with these series. I want to watch but I don’t want them to be over so I keep waiting to watch them

  2. What a fun idea to add “heather blooms” to the lampshade. I love seeing the colors you pick for those. Your Shift cowl is gorgeous! I am trying to decide if I’d prefer that or the shawl but have some handspun earmarked for one or the other.

  3. Your wool felting just gets better and better! Love the little heather nepps. They are a lovely addition. Your cowl is stunning and I prefer yours over hers for sure….I love the tight weave it produced and I’m sure it will keep you nice and warm!

  4. Wow, I just completely enjoy seeing your projects. They are gorgeous and the yarn is so beautiful. It inspires me to get back into knitting, but there is no time right now and my projects are not so beautiful. Hopefully during the Christmas break! Thank you for posting photos and explanations.
