YOP16 – Week 18/52 – ESC #6 FO and creating a cosy crafting nook

Knitting

Last Sunday I spun up some red and finished chicken #6.  Her colours are so muted in comparison with the other ones I finished.

I have got a bit lazy and haven’t measured the lengths of all these handspun yarns or how much I am using per chicken.  They are “off the books” chickens 😆

I fancied a little change to chickens and have cast on a pair of socks. I am doing my adaptation of the Hermione’s Everyday Socks.  The yarn is a lighter 4 ply so I have cast on 60 stitches instead of 56 with 2.25mm needles. I have tiny feet and hope this will work out.   Most sock patterns use 56 or 64…never 60…I may discover why as I progress 😱. I am only on the cuff so nothing to show yet.

I plan to make a start on a new jumper this week too!

Spinning

Last Sunday when I was on a video call, with my friend Sarah, I plied my yarn in the same direction as I had spun it!   What a mess!!  I managed to pull off the over twisted nightmare and re-ply it the opposite direction.  Hopefully I will never do that again.  Luckily it was just some red for using on the wattle and comb on my chickens so didn’t need to be perfect.

This last week I also spun up some different brown merino colours and plied. Then found some rustic yellowish stash and spun that and plied it with the rustic green that I had spun a few weeks ago.

These will go for making further chickens to donate.

Weaving

Inkle Loom

I had planned a tablet weaving project but it turned out I didn’t have enough green yarn, so I changed my mind totally and have been doing very simple plain weave shoelaces on the Inkle loom. Witches stockings vibes!?!

This is my first time doing a project on my Schact Inkle where I have used the texsolv heddles. Usually I have used homemade heddles, but these are working so much better.

Other News – creating a cosy crafting nook

Last Sunday it was so stormy part of our fence blew down and landed on the bonnet of one of the cars. It was not weather for venturing outside, so I moved some things around in my craftroom craving a cosy space.

I realised I could fit my dressing table (that is full of fabric and sewing threads) from under the window to under the folding bigger table that has my 8 shaft loom on.  This gave me room to create a cosy seating area in the window.

One of my grandad’s old mid-century chairs, with cushions off a sofa I bought 25 years ago and a Winnie the Pooh blanket.  A little side table and a lamp with the first felted lampshade I ever made.  It is a cosy nook now for spinning, weaving or knitting during zoom calls or for reading craft books.  Its the first time I have felt it looks cosy rather than cluttered in the room.

This was a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group has just finished its 16th year, my 9th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.
