Top 10 Christmas Movies

My husband and I were talking about our favourite Christmas Movies and we were trying to choose a Top 5.  I managed a Top 10, so here it is.  The year and IMDb score is in brackets, the was just for my own interest.

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946/8.6)
  2. Elf (2003/6.9)
  3. While you were sleeping (1995/6.7)
  4. Serendipity (2001/6.9)
  5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000/6.1)
  6. The Polar Express (2004/6.6)
  7. The Santa Clause (1994/6.4)
  8. Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987/7.6)
  9. National Lampoon Christmas Vacation (1989/7.6 …IMDb has it called Winter Holiday I noticed!?)
  10. Scrooged (1988/7.0)
I really like Love Actually, but Keira Knightley’s silly mouth open expressions drives me crackers, so it misses my top 10.

What are your favourite Christmas Movies?  Doesn’t need to be a Top 10.

  1. Hahaha Keira Knightley! Yes! My favorites are Love Actually (my love for Bill Nighy overwrites my irritation with Keira Knightley, and also Colin!) Scrooged, It’s Christmas Charlie Brown, Christmas with the Kranks, Krampus, and of course, Rare Exports. Jingle All the Way is also a guilty pleasure, though we don’t own it. What about TV specials? We love Black Adder’s Christmas Carol and SCTV Christmas Special.

    • Gavin and Stacey are doing a Christmas special this year so I’m looking forward to that. Original series is on Netflix now I think. James Cordon is in it (and co-wrote it). Stacey is played by the girl from Love Actually who is the sex scene body double. I just watched Love Actually again but managed to avoid seeing her gaping mouth lol

  2. I can'[t believe someone else is getting annoyed with people not closing their mouth. I often shout through the whole film ‘close your mouth’ 🙂 I too love Bill Nighy! The Snowman is a classic!

    • My husband and I were talking about Die Hard, I love Alan Rickman and Bruce Willis so it is probably in my top 15 maybe. I watched Love Actuallly again today, so many great performances in it…cried again when Emma gets the CD. Great movie….maybe I need to swap out Scrooged for it, which I also watched today!

  3. I don’t have that many Christmas movies, really. Die Hard is probably it. If you count TV specials, I love the animated Grinch that stole Christmas and the Peanuts Christmas special, as well as all the Rankin Bass nonsense from the 60’s and 70’s. Rudolph, Rudolph’s Shiny New Year, the Year Without a Santa Clause, and Frosty the Snowman. I really wanted to like Love Actually, because I love Bill Nighy and Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson as well. But I just hate parts of the plot.
