Acquisitions/Stash Management
I found out I won a prize at the raffle at last week’s wool show. It’s a ball of Black Cheviot carded roving to spin. Unfortunately it smells of cigarette smoke and so does the tote bag it came with so I’ve not done anything with them yet. I will probably try to wash the tote bag to see if I can remove the smell and the fibre I’ll spin outside this week and then give it a good wash. (I have a hypersensitive nose, so even with a cold I can smell it.)
Knitting
Socks
I finished my pair of Rose City Rollers in Two Sisters Yarn Co.’s Gothic Rainbow and Mothy and the Squid’s Dusty Pink 4 ply yarns that I had leftover from another pair of socks and a woven shawl.

Other/household
This has left me with some new leftovers to add to my habitation throw. I realise now it was crazy to think I could finish it this YOP year so will carry it over again and us genuine scraps on it.
Other News
Most of this week has been a right-off. I started the week with back ache and a sore throat and then came the heaviest cold I’ve had in many years. It peaked on Thursday when I felt worse than when I’d had Covid but on Friday I started to feel a little better and managed to get into the garden to plant my hydrangeas in some cheery magenta coloured pots.
My birthday is approaching so I’d ordered some hoops, netting and clips to protect my brassicas from cabbage white butterflies. On Saturday I planted out the kale and some of the broccoli and covered. Keeping my fingers crossed they are okay. I’ll do another update on my gardening blog next week.
We are booked for afternoon tea somewhere nice on my birthday that allows us to bring the dog so that will be nice.
My husband’s parrot, that usually lives with my MIL, arrived yesterday for a summer holiday at ours. It will no doubt drive me crazy with its squawking and the dust it creates, but it can be entertaining too, so not all bad. She’s an Orange Winged Amazon and it’s her 24th birthday today!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 12th year, but this is my 5th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry.
As ever, well done you, Liz ! 🙂
I’m onto crocheting a cardigan; I have another finished but am unable to put it together. 😦

That’s my big fear with making patterns that come in pieces, I’ve been a wimp and only chosen items I knit in the round in one piece. Best of luck with it.

I’ve used extended half double crochet; and although it’s really beautiful, the double twist rows MUST be affixed perfectly evenly ! I could use locking stitch markers, but then how do I do my zig-zag joining crochet around the little buggers ?! – rhetorical question, of course ..

Glad you are feeling better, I really do not like colds! Love the stripes on your rose city roller shortie socks. Tell Frankie happy birthday for me. My son has an African grey parrot, she talks up a storm!

Thanks. Frankie says a few things but not as much as a Grey talks.

Sorry to hear you spent most of the week not feeling well. Hope this week is much better. The Rose City Rollers look great. Too bad about the smoke damage to the bag and fibre. Hope it comes out with washing. I would think it’s very hard to get out of fibre. What a beautiful parrot. I’ve never kept birds. Just feed the wild ones.

Thanks. They are a terrible pet and live for ages. Noisy, dusty and loud. She is pretty though.

Just wanted to apologize. I appreciate your comment on my blog post. Seems I somehow deleted it and can’t get it back. It was not intentional. Have no idea what button I’m hitting to cause that.

Love the RCR socks. The leftovers will be wonderful for the habitation throw. Smoke is so hard to get out of fabric and fiber. You may need to use some baking soda to wash the bag in. It should help to absorb some of that odor. Hopefully the fiber wash will take care of that smell. I have never owned a bird. Not a fan after watching the movie “The Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock. I do admire them from a distance though. Especially pretty ones like Frankie. We had a neighbor who owned a Toucan and it was gorgeous and really mean. LOL But I loved looking at it. Glad to hear you are feeling better and you were able to work in your garden.

Thanks Marsha for the tip, I will give the bag a soak with some baking soda first and see if that helps.

Yes, baking soda; you can wash your fleece in it, as well. Just rinse well, maybe with a little vinegar in the water.

Thanks I’m going to give that a go.

Hope you are feeling on the mend after a few days – or at least well enough to putter around. Your socks look great and it’ll be fun to take your time with the Habitation Throw (it’s a big project!). An afternoon tea out for birthday celebrations sounds perfect. Wonder how I can request one for mine….. ?

So sorry you’re not feeling well. It really prevents you from having the energy “to do what needs to be done” as they used to say in Prairie Home Companion radio show….I digress.
The sock are adorable and the yarn is so pretty. Happy Birthday to you and Frankie!

Aw what a sweet old lady, I hope our Maggie lives that long. Do Amazons talk or is it just noise?

She says a few things, hello frankie, clever girl, goodbye, if you slurp your cup of tea she does an Ahhh sound after, then there is all the weird noises and squawking.

That’s so cute. We’ve taught Maggie to step up and give kisses when she wants a treat, but she doesn’t seem to be interested in talking.
