YOP13 Week 14/53 – Inkle weaving and jumper knitting

Acquisitions/Stash Management

I’ve ordered some red yarn! It will hopefully arrive this week and I’ll show you next week.

There may will be some other acquisitions to show next week too, as I’m heading to Loop and Beautiful Knitters shops in London this week! I’m excited…more on that next week.

I went to a destash sale on Saturday and someone from our Guild was selling some circular frames that I have some felting ideas, so perhaps this will give me my felting mojo back.

Knitting

Jumpers/cardigans

I had to rip out my jumper and change my needle size for the colourwork section and I’ve changed the rib to match where the colourwork starts so I am much happier.

Weaving

Inkle loom

After a long time ignoring my Inkle loom, I spent some time on it this week to do some more of the Monk’s Belt patterns from the pattern directory book. (Monk’s belt pattern is done with 2 different thicknesses of threads, the thicker threads making the pattern and the thinner the background.) It’s so tricky with such fine threads and not really enjoyable so I’ve now cut it off and will do a project with thicker yarns to make a different type of band.

Other News

I got my haircut this week and as I was passing the local Sports & Model shop (basically sells fishing gear, Lego, Airfix type model kits and toy trains) I noticed in the window they had a Grand Prix edition of Scalextric.

I have an early 1980s Scalextric track that has some rust, a missing cog on one of the cars, a missing driver and I’ve not been brave enough to try and plug it into a socket. So I went inside and asked if there was a chance they would have a look and service it for me. He said yes, so I went in a couple of days later with my set. When I opened the box a small crowd of excited hobbyists also had a look and memories were shared of their own sets. I’m very excited to see if he can get it working. I got it for Christmas in 1981 or 1982!!! My husband assures me that if it works we will play it. I’m not sure how long it will take for the guy to look at but I’ll let you know when I hear back.

Finally given my reduced crafting time since writing my YOP list, I’ve culled some items from it. I’m sure I’ll do them in future one day, but in the meantime it’s a bit more realistic…hopefully.

  1. I’m pleased your happier with your jumper. We put so much time into these things that happy really matters. I’ll try and remind myself of this when I weigh up the pain of ripping back vs just putting up with it for an easy life!

  3. I feel the pain on having to rip out the colorwork – i just had to do that too. I am much happier with the project now so it was worth it. The weaving is amazing.

  4. Frogging and restarting your jumper sounds like it made a grand amount of difference. Needle size written on patterns is not always perfect. So glad you adjusted yours to make your jumper perfect for you. The patterns you accomplished on the inkle loom very pretty. Looking forward to seeing what you do next. I hope your felting MOJO returns. You always make such lovely items. Fingers crossed your race track can be repaired into working shape.

  6. Good to narrow your plan to what you will enjoy most with your reduced crafting time. I love all the designs on your belt. Congrats on ripping back. I find it so hard. That will be so neat if the hobby shop can fix your Scalextric!! So much to look forward to. Enjoy your trip to London.

  9. Your color work jumper is lovely and so glad you were so brave to redo it! Your weaving is lovely…I couldn’t stop thinking of it making a beautiful guitar strap. Don’t ask me why as I don’t even play guitar!
    I hope they can fix your race track thingy.
