YOP13 Weeks 23 & 24/53 – a bit of this and that

Acquisitions/Stash Management

I’m loving my wee mystery gnome so much, I’ve bought 4 other gnome patterns and some mini skeins of non-superwash. More on those when they arrive.

Knitting

Accessories

I haven’t actually knit any of my Pinwheel mitten this week, but as this post covers two weeks I thought I’d share where I’m up to. I’m about half way up the thumb gusset.

Socks

I knit a DK sock in some Ripples Crafts DK yarn.  I need to make its buddy now.

Other

My mystery gnome is progressing. This is a snap of where I was up to on Thursday, just in case anyone is behind.

Spinning

I have spun another colour or two of the alpaca merino blend.  I’ve decided I’ll just hold off sharing photos until all the colours have been spun.

Weaving

Dorset Button

Christmas is approaching so I got an urge to make a dorset button with some scrap yarn and some off beads.  Unfortunately I got muddled and the blue beads are showing on the back not the front. Oops.  They are just odds and ends so I’m not undoing it and it’s already on the tree with the others made last year or two.

Other News

I went to see Wonka this week at the cinema and I really enjoyed it.  I laughed out loud, I cried, I sat with a big grin on my face and I’m planning to go and see it again next week!  I would say if you loved Paddington 2 that would be a good indication of whether you’ll like Wonka. Many of the same actors, same director/co-writer. The other writer is Simon Farnaby, politician from Ghosts (UK version)….he’s also in it, as are some of the other people from Ghosts!

I should have felted some lampshades in the last 2 weeks to have some to sell in the local shop, but my wet felting mojo has abandoned me.  I haven’t even finished the gnomes I started needle felting. 🙈

I did a post this week of some of my international Christmas tree decorations. In hindsight that should have gone on my travel blog…ah well. Link is here if you missed it and interested.

I’ve been listening to Barbra Streisand’s autobiography via the library app.  Its 48 hours long but I’ve found if you play it at 1.75x speed it sounds much more like her, but it does rather ruin all the song clips in the audio version, and there are a lot of clips.  But as I’ve seen all her films and own pretty much all the songs she’s ever recorded I know what they should sound like.  I’m loving the level of detail, but can imagine if someone casually read it who isn’t a big fan may find it too detailed.  Losing her dad and having such a cold and hurtful mother really helps explain why she loves to have control of everything.  She’s also a fellow lover of carbs and ice cream haha.

This is a Year of Projects post.  Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating.  If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.  (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

    • They are very quick to make, you just need a curtain ring and some waste yarn and a tapestry needle to thread the end in. If you want to add beads then you’ll need those plus a thin piece of strong thread and a finer needle to thread the buttons on to the yarn you are using. I’m sure there must be some videos on YouTube.

  1. I knew there was a reason I am a Streisand fan….Carbs and Ice Cream lover here too! I saw your ornament post and was in awe of all the different places you have traveled to. What a great way to remember your trips too. I was going to do the Gnome this year but life happened and I did not get around to it. But that is ok as I have the instructions from last year as well a all the Grimblewoods patterns too. That should keep me busy in the gnome world. LOL Your dorset buttons are always so pretty. I wouldn’t know the front from the back if you hadn’t said anything. Have a great week. And may your felting Mojo find it’s way back to your home.

  2. I love the idea to use those Dorset Buttons as ornaments – they are just so pretty! Can’t wait to see your handspun when you’re ready to share it.

That is a LONG audiobook, but I’ll bet very interesting if you’re a fan!

  3. Wow, you are still keeping quite busy even with working. The mittens look great. I’m glad you are having fun with the gnomes. I really should open my gnome kit and starting working on it. Someday. They have been showing Ghosts UK here in the states. I love the US one and it’s been fun to watch the original one.
