Last Sunday I shared my 2023 Summary post, so this is what I’ve been up to on my YOP list the last two weeks.
Knitting
Jumpers/cardigans
My Turtle Dove II is progressing. My fingers get dyed as I’m knitting it, so suspect when I eventually finish/wash/block it there’ll be quite a bit of colour running. I had split for the arms at the end of week 27, but haven’t really added much more. Like with the original Turtle Dove it looks a crazy shape off the body,

Other/household
On 1st January, I cast on the Gansey Afghan in North Ronaldsay Aran yarn I bought on Orkney in 2018. Some other blogging friends (Alissa, Marilee and Sarah) are knitting Gansey jumpers as part of a KAL, so I thought I’d join in on the Gansey theme.
I’ve only done 22 rows so far (border and 1st pattern section). The first border edge is a slightly darker shade (Slate) and I may do odd sections with this darker colour between the lighter (Seal) grey. I’ve gone up a needle size, as my 5.5mm needle is on my jumper, so I’ve cast on less stitches so hopefully it won’t take as long and won’t be too dense.

Spinning
Our Guild is running a January spinning challenge and my aim is to try to spin at least 15 mins a day on average. When I have calls with friends I’ll be able to spin longer. First up was finishing some Shetland fibre I dyed purple a while ago and started spinning 21st November 2023 on my Nano 2.
I re-plied some green dyed Shetland that was under-plied a while ago. I then set both these yarns and the alpaca colour set. Setting (for example soaking and snapping) your yarn is usually done after spinning it but I’ve got out of the habit. I have some more handspun yarns I’ll set next week so that everything is ready to knit.

I also started spinning one of the green baby camel and silk advent colours.
Other News
Christmas was quiet and we stayed in for New Year’s Eve and I went to bed after the fireworks. I was then itching to take down the decorations and made a start on removing them on New Year’s Day and on the 2nd packed everything else away. I rarely manage to keep them up until the 12th night.
I’ve bought a new style of diary/journal with habit tracker. I’m not making resolutions, but cultivating positive habits instead.
The Jetpack app is driving me crazy with a paragraph scroll thing popping up and it keeps scrolling when I am drafting this. Does anyone know how to switch it off, it’s only happened the last week?
This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).
Your gansey blanket is coming along! I like the colors of your Turtledove. I hope you are able to rinse out or fix the extra dye. Jetpack drives me crazy, too. I’m not sure about the paragraph scroll, though. I’ll keep an eye out today.

That Gansey blanket is so pretty. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I’m still getting used to the Jetpack app. I did not have any issues this morning. I hope you can find an answer to your issue with it.

Your spun yarns are so pretty. Wow, a blanket. That’s just such a big project for me. I can barely slog my way through a baby blanket. I have refused to use the Jetpack app so far. Based on comments, looks like it’s good I’m using the old browser. Perfect color of your Turtledove II. Hope not too much rinses out.

Beautiful knitting – the dye on your hands I am sure does mean the finished object will bleed when given a soaking.

You are making such great progress on your blanket. I’m still on the bottom rib of my gansey. I promise to help you exceed your 15 minute spin goal on Wednesdays.

Looks like you’re off to a great start for 2024! We wound up leaving holiday things up through this weekend. With my DH in hospital mid-December, we didn’t have ANY decorations up until Christmas Eve and then it felt weird to take them down so quickly. Loving your new sweater – it already looks warm and cozy.

Your turtle Dove jumper is very pretty. Sounds like your soak water will be a lovely color also lol. Knitting a gansey blanket is very brave. Yet, it will be a true keepsake when you have finished it. Your spun yarns are gorgeous. I am not normally fond of greens but that one is very eye catching. I am dragging my feet in taking Christmas down. We don’t have that much up but it seems so sad to put all the pretty lights and bobbles away.

Both the gansey and Turtledove look gorgeous – I hope you can get most of the excess dye out of the sweater.
