YOP15 Week 3/52 – Tour de Fleece update

A very sociable spinning week again with a zoom call Monday evening, our local spin group on Tuesday evening and then a lovely day out on Friday with some of the Guild’s Tour de Fleece team.

Eight of us car shared our way to Ullapool on the northwest coast of the Highlands. We had a wander around a new shop that has a couple of extremely clever commercial knitting machines that can do double sided colourwork, cables and other double sided fabrics.  There were no prices on anything and everything in the shop was lovely.  I resisted yarn and bought a handy set of stitch markers that are labelled with BOR, arm, front etc. 

Also bought a few none yarn related items too.  They are a new enterprise and just setting up and have a new baby.  I hope they do well.

We then went for lunch and then joined by another member we spun in one of the Ullapool harbour buildings and met the Harbour Master.  A perfect day out.

I carried on spinning more of the pink from my friend. There’s a tiny bit more to spin.

Colours aren’t true…its much brighter!

Other News

You will notice this has been another week without any knitting done.  Just seem to have lost my knitting mojo, but it will come back I’m sure.

I finally finished uploading my reduced size photos onto my travel blog.  It is crazy that I was using 2.7GB and now they have all been reduced to 1200 pixels wide they are using up only 9% of 1GB.  Really recommend everyone using WordPress reduced their photos first before uploading them.

There are other countries that we have visited that I think I am going to add to the blog now it has all this spare space.  Hawaii and Sri Lanka for sure and maybe some more of the European city breaks I have done. 

It was my husband’s birthday yesterday and we had a lovely day out including afternoon tea.

  3. Had to chuckle. I have a set of that type of stitch markers on my Timelines Tee I’m knitting right now. I too like to have the different sections identified. Your set is even nicer with the neck marker. Even brighter?! I love how bright pink your spun yarn is. Good advice on the photos. I need to reread last week’s post where you told how to do it.

    • I think even if you start reducing them going forward that will help you not have to start paying for extra storage as fast. I’ve never had a set like this before I’ve always had to write a note about which stitchmarker represents which area, so this will solve that.

  5. That pink yarn is so you! What ever will it become? Sounds like you had a lovely outing. Those stitch markers are the perfect souvenir of your trip. Happy Bday to your hubby.

    • Thanks. It will be an emotional support chicken for donating to someone when they need it. That’s the plan anyway as it’s a bit rough for a cowl. Could be a hat I suppose. I will see how much I have when it’s finished, may be enough for both.

    • Thanks Ruth. It’s going to be an emotional support chicken that I will then keep handy for when someone may need one. That pattern is fairly forgiving with uneven yarn which this is.

  7. That pink yarn you spun is gorgeous, Liz! Having a spinning day “in the Highlands” sounds so cool. I have no idea what the Highlands actually are, but we’ve all heard of them. 😀 Going to look them up now. I think resizing pictures is always a good idea for blogging (on any platform) as they download so much quicker. Okay… I can’t figure out what BOR is for a stitch marker. I’m guessing it will be a head-slapper when you tell me, but nothing is coming to mind.

    • BOR is beginning of round 😃
      The Highlands is where I live, basically the top areas of Scotland (about 10,000 sq miles). It is a collection of different smaller areas. Our local council is Highland Council, so our libraries, payments of local taxes and green waste collection fees etc etc go to Highland Council. Within the Highlands there are then other geographical splits for MPs members of parliament for both the UK parliament and the Scottish parliament. It can get all very confusing. I will share a link. I live on the east side, just around where the smallest lowest peninsula on the highlands bit is.   8. Ohhh, you bought some pretties! My son bought an older Brother flatbed knitting machine. He’s have so much fun with it, but he also has a sock knitting machine (the metal one) that he enjoys.

    I lose my knitting mojo occasionally but it always comes back, in the meantime you can spin!!! Then when your knitting mojo comes back, you will have lots of yarn to knit :P.

  10. Happy Birthday to your hubby!. Your spinning looks great. I am the opposite. My spinning mojo just isn’t happening despite it being TdF, but my knitting is alive and well.
