I have now woven two pairs of shoelaces and thought I would share what I have learned.
Shoelaces #1
Loom – Schact Inkle Loom
Yarn – DMC Cotton Perlé No. 8 (colours 816 red (63m) and 415 grey (24m))
Pattern information – Not twist neutral. I used fishing swivels to release the build up of the twist. 7 warp threads.
What I learned – Getting the twist out of such a long length of such fine thread was a real challenge and added quite a lot of time to the project. I used a large paperclip to untwist it.

Shoelaces #2
Loom – Lojan 3-in-1 Loom
Yarn – DMC Cotton Perlé No. 8 (colours 519 pale blue (47m) and 3847 dark green (44m))
Pattern information – Twist neutral. 7 warp threads.
What I learned – I hadn’t realised the diagonal lines would create a kink/twist in one direction and then when reversed the opposite. So it looked very wonky when it was off the loom but it is ok once laced on the shoes. They are long enough for my small shoes UK3/US5 but I think someone with larger feet may struggle to get two laces woven at the same time.

These are such fun! They do sound a bit fussy to make but they are a great little sparkle of joy on your shoes.
