YOP15 Week 35/52 – Three FOs!

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

Having hand wound the bobbins on my sampler it was time to invest in a bobbin winder.  I chose the Glimรฅkra 62M, which fits Ashford bobbins and the paper bobbins that fit both the shuttles that I have.  I got it from Weaving Yarn Limited, which was cheaper than at other suppliers.  The spike is tapered which is how it holds the bobbins in place.

Knitting

I finished knitting my Litmus Cowl in my baby camel and tussah silk handspun.   These were some of my favourite colours from the Coastal Colours fibre advent a few year’s ago.

The pattern is free and very simple.  A provisional cast-on, knitting round and round until it’s time to kitchener stitch it closed.

Spinning

I finished spinning and plying the merino and mulberry silk from World of Wool, called The Luminous Lagoon.  I managed to fit 193g onto my jumbo bobbin when plying but couldn’t manage to squeeze on the last 5g.

Weaving

Rigid heddle loom

My three heddle sampler was finished, cut off the loom and I have twisted the fringe using my fringe twister gadget.ย  I did publish a post with all the finished sections showing front and back.ย  Here is a photo of it laid out front side and back.ย  It is too long to take a photo of the whole thing in a strip.ย  Since taking the photo its been washed and drying.

I have been having a look at 4 shaft patterns and going to have a go at converting one to do on my rigid heddle!

Other News

We watched quite a lot ofย  curling this week. Because there were so many matches, we found fast forwarding to the last 3 or 4 stones of each end made it exciting and more manageable time wise.

I have also been rewatching ER.ย  I loved it at the time and still do.ย

We went to see Crime 101 and then out for dinner on Thursday night, that made a lovely change.ย ย  We both enjoyed it.ย

February is absolutely flying by, its hard to understand why January seems to go on for 6 weeks and February seems to last 6 days.ย

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as youโ€™d be very welcome to join us.

Year 15 list.

  1. You’ve summed up January and February pretty well, Liz. lol The wonderful thing about February being so fast is that spring is right on its tail. On the calendar, at least. ;^)

Your heddle sampler scarf is so pretty. Thank you for taking a picture of the whole thing. How satisfying it must be to create such interesting things.

  3. Ok, not being a weaver I had to look up Glimรฅkra 62M. Must be a weaving bobbin winder?

Your cowl is very pretty, if you are having any kind of weather like we are, warm and cold and warm and cold, you should have plenty of time to wear it :P. We were in the 50’s this past week but below 0 with wind chills today and tonight in the midwest part of the US and cold and blizzard conditions along the eastern coast from Washington DC into New York and on into Boston. And the southern states are going to be colder than normal as well. But….then the midwest warms back up into the 40’s and mid 30’s. sigh!

I love the color of your Luminous Lagoon skein, so pretty. Your woven scarf is also very pretty!!! You have been busy!!!

  4. That merino/ mulberry silk yarn has such a nice deep sheen. Itโ€™s beautiful. The pattern on the weaving is interesting. Itโ€™s fun to look at. It almost feels like itโ€™s playing tricks on my eyes.
