YOP15 Week 36-37/52 – Acquisitions galore!

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

This will be my biggest section this week!

I have purchased a 2nd Ashford 32″ loom!  It was for sale at too low a price to pass up, especially as it came with 5 heddles and an adjustable stand.  My plan is to try out the adjustable stand, work out which of the additional heddles I would like to keep and then sell the loom with the stand and heddles I decide not to keep.  (I have already got a Guild member who is interested.)

It also came with a small tin of wax that I have used on both of the looms and stands and they look great.

I saw on YouTube people making a tension device for warping their loom.  I have bought all the bits and will do a post at some point with all the details and me using it.

Some weaving cotton arrived to make some new towels with!  (Maurice Brassard 8/4 cotton.)

It was Dornoch Fibre Fest this weekend.  I’d commissioned a yarn spool holder from Bunloit Woolery (run by a couple at our Guild) and picked that up at their stall.  I also got from them a pattern stand which will help me when weaving more complex patterns, as well as when I knit colourwork.  (Oh also I bought 2 x 50g balls of Jamieson’s Shetland Heather Aran wool in the colour Oceanic.

Felting

Now my shoulder is pretty much back to full movement I am going to make some new lampshades!  I will announce on here when I have some available and where.

Knitting

The only knitting I have done in the last few weeks, is this dishcloth!

Sewing

My sewing machine is back from the repairers.  I have made 24 triangles ready to make some bunting for our sun room.  I need some more bias tape as I don’t have enough, then I can make the bunting.

7 fabrics 4 triangles of each

Spinning

I have made a start on spinning my 2025 World of Wool Advent.  This was Day 1 called Feuerzangenbowle.  50% Shetland, 25% Corriedale, 12.5% Tussah silk, 12.5% Mulberry silk.

I have spun half of day 2 but will show it once plied.

Weaving

Rigid heddle loom

I converted some more 4 shaft patterns for using 3 heddles with.  The next pattern I am going to weave is actually just one heddle and pick up sticks but I really like the pattern.  Hopefully next week I will have something to show.

I did another sample of the same pattern as last week.  My aim was to test shrinkage…however I stupidly forgot to measure it before I washed it in hot water.  It did shrink and neatened up but my edges are still very messy.

Other News

Its been a pretty full on and busy week.

I had my annual blood test for my liver and saw that my doctor is retiring next week so I made an appointment with her and took along a list of all the things I have been meaning to speak to her about for the last year or so!  I am hoping her replacement will be as nice.

All going well I will hopefully have some weaving to show you next week and who knows maybe a lampshade!

This is a Year of Projects post.  Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating.  If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as youโ€™d be very welcome to join us.

  1. Dang! You have so much going on with your weaving and spinning. Not to mention a wee bit of knitting. Cute dishcloth. I am fascinated by your weaving and love seeing all the things you are able to do on your looms.

  2. Congrats on the great heddle loom find, Liz. Wonderful that someone is already interested in what you may not want to keep. I’ve wondered about your shoulder, and am so glad that it is all better. I’m getting into sewing more and I love to see (and buy) new fabrics. Even if they make my old hand-me-down stash show their age. A bunting will be fun to finish and hang.

  3. Glad your shoulder is healing, feels so good to feel good :P.

I need to get back to my spinning and seeing yours is prodding me on ;).

Glad you found a good buy on a loom, sure wish I enjoyed all the prework to weave, I could like the back and forth part, but not all the set up :P.

It is a nice dish cloth, you shouldn’t say this is all I knit or I only knit this, this week, any knitting counts!! I like the pattern ;). I ordered a skein of yarn to what I wanted color wise and it looks great. I had her dye it so I could make my daughter a winter hat, of course now that winter is close to over :P. I will start on that tomorrow.
