Knitting
I have added a few sections to my Hitchhiker scarf this week. I had forgotten how as it grows each section takes longer to do. Progress will likely be slow but I am going to be happy to wear this later in the year.
Spinning
Yesterday we had a spinning day at the arts centre in Inverness and I took along Day 7 of the 2025 World of Wool Advent. It was horrendous, the blend has 40% soy silk and it went everywhere, covered my top, my trousers, my bag, my lap cloth. It is as bad if not worse than my first ever spinning…over spun and I may not even finish the 2nd half. Definitely will avoid soy fibre in future. Too embarrassed to even share a photo of it on the bobbin.
Weaving
8-Shaft
I have finished my first sample weaving on my new loom. It was 8′ of weaving, so much for thinking it was a small sampler 😆
I will do a post on Wednesday with the techie bits but here is a couple of photos of it damp.
Everyone at the Guild was very kind with their comments when I showed it off. It was so long it spread over 3 people’s knees 😆
Other News
The King’s helicopter flew past our window on Friday before landing in town for part of the celebrations of our town becoming a Royal Burgh 800 years ago. It was pouring with rain and I was still in my PJs when he flew over, so I didn’t see him. His visit seemed to go well meeting local shop/business owners and other groups and some girls did Scottish dancing display for him. Our town is WAY older than 800 years though, it was named by its Viking rulers in the 8th-11th Century! They had a viking parade, some fighting reenactment (which we saw a little of) and some stalls showing viking crafts including tablet weaving…which as some of you will know I have done. I flashed them my shoelaces I had tablet woven 😆.
As you can imagine a lot of my week was spent weaving and I seem to have forgotten all household and laundry duties again…oops. I am also falling behind again on the posts the other lovely members of the YOP group have shared. I will catch up on their posts, some housework, weeding, picking fruit and laundry mountain before I warp my loom for its next project!

Soooo, what will you do with such a long scarf? Will it replace bunting flags as a window decoration?
How wonderful to have such a long history for cities.

Definitely too scratchy and long for a scarf. I am going to cut some of it up to sew a holder for the metal lease sticks and heddle rods for the loom. Some the pattern can’t be seen so will probably go in the bin. May have enough to make a small notions pouch.

Forgot to say, we aren’t a city its a town of between 5 to 6 thousand people. But yes many of our cities have long histories too.

And here we thought celebrating our 250th was a big deal. 800 is much bigger! That is one loooong piece of weaving. How long did it take to do? Sorry to hear soy fiber is not a wonderful thing to spin.

Sorry the soy fiber didn’t spin up well, my druther is to not spin the plant fiber, I always worry that some of them will deteriorate faster than animal fiber. but I could be wrong. Your weaving is going right along! Wish I enjoyed it, but I don’t so I’m sticking with my spinning and knitting, I’ll just watch your weaving :). 800 years is amazing :). It doesn’t surprise me that some of us who have Scottish and Irish heritage also have Scandinavian heritage as well :).
