Acquisitions/Stash Management
In our town centre there has been some very colourful yarn bombing going on. A yarn covered bicycle, typewriter, chair, lampposts etc decorate the High Street. I contacted the knitter responsible and she has thankfully taken all my acrylic yarns and some cotton/wool lace yarns I won’t use. This made space in my Kallax unit for the yarn I bought last week and yesterday. 😂
Talking of yesterday, I went along to the Highland Wool & Textiles fair. I’d already pre-arranged for Helen from Ripples Crafts yarns to bring me some DK sock yarn and a bright red 4 ply merino/yak/silk yarn! I also picked up another of that 4 ply that’s impossible to photograph the correct colour. It’s more greenish teal than blue. The colour is called “Oh my!”. I’m going to knit another Mostly Warmness set by Martina Behm with one or both of them! The DK is for socks.

I also bought something totally new to me. It’s a kit of thick recycled cotton yarn and some bases and a crochet hook, to make a bowl and a plant pot cover.

Shawls
I’m out of scraps to add to my habitation throw! I have thought about taking a little yarn from each full skein in my stash but I haven’t 100% decided on that yet.
Socks
I have cast on a new pair of socks, just some simple Rose City Rollers using some leftover yarns. I notice the designer of Rose City Rollers has withdrawn the pattern but it was still in my Ravelry library and printed luckily. I’ll share a photo next week.
Other News
This week I’ve spent quite a lot of time in the garden. I did do a post on my garden diary blog earlier in the week. No Mow May means our lawn has some patches of extremely long grass.

Unfortunately I over did it on Thursday bending over one of the raised borders and have strained my back. I’m doing some of the things Bob and Brad (the most famous physical therapists on the Internet (in their opinion)) recommend on their YouTube channel so hopefully it will ease up soon. I’ve also been using my shiatsu seat so I’m glad I kept that in all my decluttering rounds. Being laid up on Friday meant I was able to watch hours of the Chelsea Flower Show on TV. I’ll pace myself better once my back feels better.
Oh before I go…I made some Jostaberry jam and Blackcurrant jam as well this week. They had been in the freezer for quite a while but didn’t have any freezer burn and the Jostaberry jam is delicious. I left a jar on my neighbour’s doorstep as she has Covid again! It seems to be doing the rounds again. My husband has a cold and I felt a bit achy legged and a headache mid-week but doesn’t seem to be Covid.
This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 12th year, but this is my 5th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry.

The aim of No Mow May is to give insects food between the spring flowers and summer flowers…so buttercups, dandelions, clover, we have lots of wild orchids in our front garden and other flowering weeds. A Jostaberry is a cross between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant…delicious.

That is HIGHLY commendable !! – I like it like anything. 🙂
Downunder we don’t have jostaberries, alas !!! I shall try to have a traveller steal some seeds and bring ’em to me. [grin]

I’ve found a bunch of Australian garden centres selling them but they are out of stock. I also see on a forum someone got one from Bunnings in Melbourne, so keep an eye out there. They are tangy and sweet. No thorns too.

I’ve just read an Australian blog post about them. They maybe don’t do as well in Australia. I’ve had mine 10 years and wouldn’t class it as vigorous and we get a bumper crop, but it maybe likes our cooler summers. https://fruitforum.wordpress.com/2007/05/09/jostaberry/

You have had a busy week! How nice to find a yarn bomber to take your acrylic. We are fallowing most of our garden this year; moving the raised beds around and working on soil improvement. We do have potatoes, lettuce and a few tomatoes, but that’s pretty much it.

Love your yarn acquisitions! That greenish teal sounds beautiful. The crochet projects sound fun. Wish I knew how to crochet. Yum, homemade jam. What a thoughtful gift for your sick neighbor. Jostaberry sounds awesome! I just read a recipe about egg salad sandwishes with tomato jam. Think I may have to make some tomato jam. 🙂 Hmm wonder why the designer pulled the Rose City Roller socks. They are so popular!

Wish postage to you wasn’t so expensive – I would gladly send you leftovers as I have a bazillion of them! Take care of your back (and hopefully you and your DH can dodge another round of COVID. It’s been taking off again over here too.)

Yes, I, too, had to look up jostaberry! It probably wants more sun than I can provide, though. sounds delicious. And I’m also surprised that a designer would pull a popular pattern, but if you’ve bought it once you should be able to keep it forever.

I love seeing yarn bombers, great stuff!!
I had to laugh at your acquisitions and stash management, last spring I emptied 12 totes of paperwork and other odds and ends in an effort to clean out my closets of stuff I really needed to get rid of or shred, and I found a use for those totes, LOL new spinning fiber HAHAHA, what are we going to do with our acquisitions!!! I think they are just comfort, lol.
I didn’t think about the beneficial insects needed things between early spring and summer, brilliant!
I watch Bob and Brad too :).

They (Bob and Brad) are great aren’t they. Yeah its funny the games we play in our heads to justify what we do. How much more fun are totes of fibre than paperwork…way better use for them….and insulation in the house too…I swear that room is warmer due to the wall of wool stuff lol

They are great! Yeah that is what I keep telling myself too, warm for the winter lol.

Oh my! What a great name for a colorway. Those are gorgeous yarns. I am shocked to hear RCR was pulled from the patterns. So glad I printed mine a while back plus put it into my desktop cloud. You are so sweet to give your sick neighbor some homemade jam.
