YOP15 Weeks 42-49/52 – a little crafting

Here’s a quick catch up on some craft related activities over the last 8 weeks…to be honest most of this happened in the last week.

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

One of my friends and I took a trip out on Sat 18th April, to a destash sale. The lady selling all her crafting stuff had absolutely masses of fibre, wool, threads. I picked up a cone of aran weight Shetland and a cone of thick cotton. Both I plan to practice weaving with.

Air Dry Clay

I think 2 years ago I got a minions air dry clay kit, this week I finally stopped procrastinating and had a go.  They are so light and airy.  I have more to make from their suggestions and then can play around making more.  The evil minion was the first I made and I used way too much black on his dungarees, this may cause problems when I try making some extra ones as I have lots of yellow left.  His hair isn’t quite right either, ah well.

Fibre Prep

In my newly decorated bedroom, I would like to make a new felted bin in some of the colours taken from the new walls, curtains, headboard and bedding.  First step was blending some colours on my drum carder and picking out some silks for decoration.

Sewing

About 6+ years ago I lost a button on my pink cashmere cardigan. During week 42 I found the spare button in my button jar (see it’s good to collect buttons somewhere)! I didn’t quite have the right coloured thread, and don’t want to buy more, so I cut all the buttons off and sewed them all back on with thread from my stash.

Spinning

I have spun a green and purple, day 3 of my advent and an aurora borealis blend.

Weaving

Dorset Buttons

This week I made a couple of Dorset Buttons.

Other News

Since taking a break from crafting to concentrate on decluttering and household jobs, I have written some posts about what I decluttered (week 1, week 2).

I have also been upgrading my bedroom, fixing new drawer handles on the units, buying new curtains, headboard, bedding and painting the walls.

I had jury service which was very upsetting, so thank goodness I had a great live comedy (Showstopper! The Improvised Musical) and comedian (Ivo Graham) to see after it was over. We also saw Josh Widdecombe (comedian) back in early May.

What I noticed is, these posts aid my productivity, they give me some sense of accountability, some incentive to not just sit and watch shorts on YouTube…something I have done too much of over these last weeks. Suddenly it became hard to imagine how I used to achieve so much in a week, where had I been finding all that time to keep on top of things, do my vegetable garden (that has mostly been ignored this year), read everyone’s blogs, and do all those finished objects. It’s almost like I have morphed into a sloth 🦥 who can fill their day with not much at all.

I need to snap out of this current sloth mode and get back to it! There is still more decluttering to do and more household jobs that need to get done though.

Yesterday was my birthday, so seems a good time to get back on the ‘hobby’ horse.

Onwards and upwards.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.
