YOP12 Week 50/52 – finally back to felting and opposite socks!

Eek! Panic! Only 2 weeks left of YOP 12!! I’m just kidding, there’s no pressure to have things finished but it is a little disheartening looking at my list and seeing things I started in YOP 9 that are still unfinished. No-one is judging me except myself.

They’ll get carried forward to YOP 13, but as I’ve started to draft my list for the new YOP year one of my targets is going to be to finish old WIPs or get rid of them…so it could be an unlucky year for some items!

Anyway back to YOP 12, here’s what I’ve done this week.

Acquisitions/Stash Management

It was my birthday this week and we went out for afternoon tea in a dress I bought years ago. I shared a photo with some friends and they all commented what a great colour it was on me 🥰 so that sounded like a perfect excuse to treat myself to some yarn in that same colour 😂🤣.

My grey linen/cotton Quick Sand cardigan is looking well worn now so I ordered some more of the same yarn in a dark blue colour to make another.

The yarns should arrive next week so I’ll share a pic when they arrive.

Felting

I have felted 2 x 25cm lampshade pieces so will construct those next week and make some others too!! My felting mojo appears to have returned aided by me playing music videos on YouTube whilst I’m doing it and singing loudly. Have you heard Sam Ryder singing Fought and Lost featuring Brian May? I have…about 5000 times this week lol.

They were blowing in the breeze so tricky to photograph.

Knitting

Socks

When I weighed the leftovers from last week’s finished socks I realised I had enough yarn to make an opposite coloured pair! So that’s what I’ve done this week! No wonder my habitation throw is taking so long when I keep using all my scraps for socks 😂 . I knit them two at a time but now I’m on the feet I’ve switched to doing one on my 25cm needle to make it quick and mindless and then I’ll do the 2nd….hopefully they’ll end up the same size.

Spinning

I spun up the black Cheviot fibre I had won. The canvas tote I won has been sprayed with Febreze liberally and hung on the line to dry. I think that has done the trick (of getting rid of the cigarette smoke smell) but I will have to wait for my lingering cold to be completely gone before I can be sure.

Other News

I got out on my SUP, after our afternoon tea, on my birthday. It was a little choppy but it was nice to finally get back out on it.

One of my presents were some new pruning sheers and some long gardening gloves and so I hacked back some of the shrubs which were blocking the light on some other flowers and plants. It would have been a great idea to take a before and after photo…ah well.

Saturday was roasting hot…well 24°C but that’s enough to bring out my prickly heat so I’m hoping it soon cools down. (Air con is not a thing in most UK homes.)

I’ve opened a new feed in the group asking who is joining YOP 13, if you have been following me and think you’d like to join then this is a perfect time to have a look, introduce yourself and start coming up with a list to share with us in July.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 12th year, but this is my 5th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry.

Year 12 list.

  1. Liz, what are opposite socks ?
I know NOZZINK about sock-making, as I never need to show my socks; I wear jeans all the time, and they have to go down to below to tops of my feet (if you get my drift). There IS a reason: I have the worst ankles in the world. 😦

    • Ah I should have explained better. So last weeks socks used the stripey yarn except for the heel, which was pink. This time the socks are pink and the heel is stripey. It means I had enough yarn to have made a stripey pair and a pink pair. Oh well!!

  2. How has a whole year of projects come around so quickly? I love the opposite socks idea. I do find two at a time socks difficult to get into a rhythm with but I love being able to have two socks that are actually a matching pair. Congrats on getting your felting mojo back!

  3. You look beautiful in that picture. Thanks for sharing. It is a great color on you too. Can totally relate on planned projects that need get started. My plan to knit a brioche sweater will not get done this year and probably not next year but someday….. I have to chuckle at 24C being hot but I appreciate it all depends on what you are used to. Plus no AC makes a big difference. We open all the windows when the high for the day is 24C. So glad you are happy with the Febreze! It’s made by the company I worked for and I too love Febreze. The Febreze candles are excellent for eliminating cooking odors. Glad you had a nice birthday. I just realized you are in the age range of my step-children. I feel old. 😉

  4. That blue is outstanding on you! I think Ylva agrees too. Happy BIrthday too! The photo of the lampshades drying on the line is great. It has a bit of action to it. Perfect. Those socks are great. I like the striped heel on them. You 24C sounds heavenly to me. But then my 42C that we will be hitting next week probably makes you swoon. (me too) So glad you are pretty sure the tote bag is going to be fresh smelling again.

  6. Hope you had a happy birthday! I think we are hard on our selves about things we want to accomplish, stuff like that weighs me down so I only have 2 to 3 (sometime 4 for a long term project) so I don’t feel the pressure, pressure equals anxiety, sigh.

Your spinning is beautiful!! Baking soda is good for eliminating smells, maybe you could put some on the dry fabric, I would suggest soaking it in baking soda but I am not sure if it would do anything to the color (like fade etc). I know people use it in their wash sometimes. Something you can look up to see anyway.

Your dress is a very pretty color and your friends were right, it’s. good color for you :). I like the Quick Sand cardigan, it was talked about a lot a few years ago. ls the front border knit in or added on?

    • Oh goodness my memory is rubbish and I’ve made 2 Quick Sand cardigans already and I don’t remember but think it was crocheted slip stitches after. I was thinking about doing an icord edge as I knit it for this next linen one. I wear my linen mix one but don’t really wear the wool one. It was designed for linen and suits it well. My Fine Sand is alpaca yarn so has the same drape and I do wear that.
