2023-2024 Year of Projects (YOP13) Starting List week 1/53

After last week’s mammoth post wrapping up YOP 12, it’s time to share what my plans are for the Group’s 13th Year (YOP13). This is my 6th year, if you’d like to join in it’s not too late, see the link at the bottom for details.

You’ll notice a lot of ↪️ symbols…these are items I’ve carried forward from an earlier YOP year. (There are going to be 53 Sundays in this YOP year, it happens sometimes.)

Key:
↪️ carried over from a previous YOP year
✳️ started
✅ finished
🆕 added to list after week 1
⁉️ fell at a hurdle but back on track
‼️ abandoned
🐸 frogged

NB. There are links to the Ravelry pattern, yarn or project page.

Main target for YOP 13

This year I will finish the carried forward items started in a previous YOP year or get rid of them. Year 13 could be an unlucky year for some items! Even though no-one is judging me, other than myself, I’ve worked hard on decluttering the house and consider myself a pretty good completer/finisher, so long term works in progress (WIPs) aren’t something I want to have in my life. Will 13 be a lucky or unlucky number for all my long term WIPs….we shall see!

Other News

I realised I hadn’t taken a photo of where I was up to on my Habitation Throw so I’ve included a photo here as a snapshot of where I was roughly up to at the end of YOP 12. The yellow highlighter shows where my progress keeper is showing when the last photo was shared. It will be good to now be able to move that to the latest row and not have to keep searching for it. The needle cable is distorting the shape. I counted islets to be sure 😂.

Tour de Fleece 2023 started yesterday and I shared a post with what I did yesterday and my plans for the rest of the time.

I wonder why I make these annual lists, because I had drafted my list for year 13 and then last Sunday bought enough New Lanark chunky yarn to make a jumper (the shop was closing and it had 40% off…what could I do?). So then I had to have a look at patterns, found one and cast it on! I still think 3 garments is realistic, not 4, so I’ve already changed my list this week 😂. Here’s where I’m up to on the jumper so far! The colour-work element is finished.

In all seriousness, I love this group and the people I’ve ‘met’ through it. All the time I’m trying to establish routines for things in my life and they fall by the wayside far too often, but sharing what we’ve been crafting each Sunday has stuck the last 5 years.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. What a great list! My lists have absolutely no basis in reality so I don’t even bother any more. When that yarn sale calls, you just have to answer! Good luck with this year’s YOP!

  2. You were so right to buy the yarn and start that beautiful jumper. I love your long list of projects for the year and that you are including new-ish crafts like your painting plans. – Uhh just curious though – if you laid your plans on a calendar are there enough days to do them all??!! That would spoil the fun. 😉 Didn’t you say you were starting a part-time job? The baby alpaca/silk yarn for The Shift sounds amazing. Wishing you a wonderful YOP 13.

    • I don’t think I could work to a calendar in crafting timetabling because my mojo for each thing comes and goes. I’ll be working 15 hours a week, if I include walking to the office 3 days a week I’ll be gone about 19 hours a week from what I currently have and so that, in my head, doesn’t sound like much for someone who only gets about 6 hours sleep a night. I’m sure in reality I’ll have to let some things slip, but who lives in reality? I’m dreaming big. 😂

  3. Always fun to see what you have planned – and what plans you’ve changed. I do think plans are valuable as check-in points or at least reminders to get back to focusing on things that may otherwise completely fall by the wayside. (And totally okay to switch up, remove, ignore ones – all of this should be fun!)

  4. Your list is awesome. I know some of those items will be quick to finish but others. Wow! I will surely love to watch your progress each week. BTW the Avena sweater is gorgeous! Your new sweater (jumper) is really pretty. I like the accent color you used. Hopefully you are enjoying your part time job and it is leaving you plenty of room for you creative self.

    • Thanks Marsha, I think Avena is gorgeous too but I’m glad I started with this simple chunky one first to have a go. It’s zipping along. I don’t start until the 18th. 😃

  5. I love your list! So many great projects….the colorwork sweaters, the Void which I would love to do sometime, the Alaska hat and so much more! You really jump started your year 13 with the new sweater….you’ve gotten a lot done on it already! You go girl! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

  6. Wow so much stuff, I would be having an anxiety attack :P. The Fern and Feather is really pretty and the Avena is breath taking! I will look forward to those two done. And the Alaska hat is something I’ve wanted to try as well, it is gorgeous, what colors have you decided on? Someday :P. And I have to ask, what is it that you don’t do? Looking at all your talents makes me tired, think I’ll go take a nap :P.

    • Haha I think I’ve given all the crafts a go except macrame. I have blown glass, turned wood and done pottery and loved all those too but they involve even more kit and I’ve already taken most of the house hostage with my crafting stuff 😂. I was thinking a sort of blueish purple sunset for the Alaska hat background and almost black for the trees.

  7. I always love how detailed your lists are! I really enjoy seeing your projects move along. I did notice that you’ve deadlined some fleeces. I think sometimes we need to do that, unless we become extreme hoarders.
