YOP13 Week 4/53 – an FO and my new job

Knitting

Jumpers/cardigans

I took my knitting to spin group this week, despite it being Tour de Fleece.  Crazy the rush to finish a chunky jumper in July?!

Our heating did automatically come on one evening it was so cold!  I switched it off as soon as I realised, but with our crazy fluctuating weather here in the Highlands it could be I’ll need this jumper sooner rather than later.

I finished binding off the cuffs and hem last night watching Avatar: The Way of the Water.  It took all those hours to do the Invisible Ribbed (sewn) Bind Off.

Here’s a quick snap before heading off to bed (colour is wrong). It needs a soak and blocking and I’ll do an FO post but suspect that won’t be this week as I don’t think it will dry quickly.  Not with it being quite cool here.

Spinning

Well I’ve not really done much spinning this week!  I plied the turquoise and purplish blue singles and started on a pale green.  All baby camel and silk.

On Friday some of the ladies from our TDF team met for lunch at a cafe and we spun outside.  I just took a pink rolag and my spindle.  It made a nice change to go out for lunch with someone other than my husband.

Other News

I started my new job on Tuesday.  It’s an accounts assistant role at a local family run agriculture machinery sales and servicing business.  I’ll just be doing 5 hours per day, 3 days per week.  This week I was mostly just watching what is done, but I got a chance to do a few things.  Hopefully next week I’ll have more chance to “do”, rather than just watch.

I’ll eventually be working Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but they are pretty flexible about the days.  This week I did Tuesday – Thursday which suited my boss better.  Next week I’ll do Monday to Wednesday as next Thursday-Sunday I’ll be at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.  Once I’m working my set days this will give me Tuesdays at home to do Guild paperwork, clean the house, tidy up the garden and on Thursdays my plan is to spend time doing crafty stuff to sell or keep.  That’s the plan anyway!

This week I booked flights for a day trip to London to meet up with Marilee from Quite a Yarn blog (Wisconsin, US). She and her husband are coming to London later in the year and he has plans one day, which gives a free day for Marilee and I to hang out and be yarn tourists. I’m flying down in the morning and back the same day, but that should give us enough time to visit some London yarn stores, including Loop, and to see some touristy things too…oh and eat lunch and admire our lovely new purchases 😂. It’s not for a few months but I’m already excited. Work has been great allowing me to swap my working day that week, as I didn’t have enough holiday entitlement left.

We had a lovely meal out, at Coul House, for my husband’s 50th.  They let us sit and eat in the bar with the dog, which is great as it means a more exciting meal than most places we can go to with the dog.  My meal was delicious and for dessert we both had creme brûlée and it came on a plate with five blobs of the most delicious fruity yummyiness.  I asked what it was and the waiter investigated for us, he came back and said the chef is Italian and he just likes to experiment with different fruit reductions and this was a mixture of fruits.  If that was sold in bottles I’d buy a case of them, delicious 😋

Next week I can’t see me getting much crafting done at all, and mobile signal is poor at Belladrum, so I will skip next Sunday’s post and see you in 2 weeks.  I will write up an FO post for my jumper though.

This is a Year of Projects post.  Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating.  If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.  (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. Your Selfish Pullover looks terrific. I almost can’t imagine it being cool enough for the heater but have to admit that last night here it got down to 15C so our heater might have come on!! Unfortunately heat and humidity are headed our way this week. I too would be excited about a trip to London to meet up with a friend for a yarn day. Sounds fantastic. How lucky to have such a flexible work schedule. I hope you enjoy the work. Sounds like a fun weekend ahead.

  2. Beautiful jumper and it wouldn’t be unwelcome in Wales at the moment. We did half seriously discuss lighting the fire a couple of days ago just to cheer the house up a bit in the unrelenting rain! Congratulations on your new job and I hope you settle into it soon.

  3. Your jumper looks very nice. It will get a lot of wear soon, I am sure. Your job sounds great. So nice to be able to have some flexibility in days to be worked. Does Ylva go to work with you? Enjoy your festival next week.

  4. I love the sweater! But then again, you have good taste in sweaters so I usually love them all. Your bright camel yarns from this week are LOVELY! But I’m a sucker for candy color yarns, even if my closet is full of clothing in various shades of black and bruise (hahaha).

Holy cats! That festival looks so cool! I love that there is a “clean fields” camping – which is what I thought ALL campsites looked like when you left. I would never dream of leaving a bunch of trash/stuff behind! Have fun!

    • We always get a clean fields ticket. I never understand why they restrict numbers though. I think they issue 3,000 but my friend who got a late ticket struggled to get clean camping so she would have had to camp elsewhere. General camping is a mess. People just go home and leave tents, chairs, food. So wasteful but the organisers do liaise with people who can reuse some left things

  5. Your finished jumper looks fantastic – it’ll be perfect for colder weather, which apparently is just around the corner for you! Beautiful spins as well.

Glad your job seems like it will be a good fit. It’s nice to have some flexibility and a good boss is worth their weight in gold!
