YOP13 Week 7/53 – stripy socks in my own dyed yarn

Knitting

Socks

I knitted a pair of socks this week! I started them last Sunday evening and finished them last night.

The yarn was self striping that I dyed quite a while ago. I had split 100g of BFL nylon into 2 x 50g large loops and then dyed each 50g a different self striping colour. This alternates a purple and pink with white (undyed). The leftovers I’ll add to my habitation throw. Yes my feet are so small I can get a pair of socks from about 40g!

The pattern I’m sure you’ll recognise as Rose City Rollers. (They look a bit odd lying on my knee but it was late and I couldn’t be bothered hunting for my sock blockers 😂.)

Spinning

I finished spinning some baby camel and silk and then plied 3 different lots of it from different bobbins.

Other News

I don’t really have much else to report this week. I managed to walk home (up the giant hill) from work two days this week. Maybe I’ll manage to walk all 3 days this week…that’ll depend on the rain though.

I’m off to see Oppenheimer at the cinema this afternoon.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. Your socks turned out super cute. They will be fun to wear on your walks to work. Love the sheen and softness on your spun fibre. Work certainly does get in the way of crafting but hope you are enjoying both.

  2. Your socks are adorable. You did a great job on dying the fiber to make striped socks. Your newly spun yarn looks squishy and warm. Good job on walking up a giant hill twice this week.

  3. The self striping matches perfectly! I’ve seen people string the yarn out over a ways to get self striping but I’m not sure how they dye it without bleeding when they do that :P.

Oh my, the silk sheen on your spinning is amazing on the camel and silk, so awesome!

    • Thank you, I don’t really understand how some who dye coloured stripes don’t get bleeding too. I left the white bits intentionally to get a clean line but I’ve bought or been gifted rainbow stripes and no muddying seems to have happened. Clever dyers!

  4. Love those stripy socks and your handspun looks FANTASTIC! Hope things continue to go well at work for you. I’m sure it’s been a big change in how you can allocate your time. Hope you enjoy Oppenheimer. We don’t live immediately in Los Alamos (we’re in a “suburb”, such as it is) but they shot the movie in town!

    • Oh wow. I enjoyed the movie, it’s very powerful, the sound and some visuals are incredible, RDJ deserves an Oscar nom. Have you seen the movie? Its definitely worth seeing it on the big screen for full impact.

      • I haven’t but it’s on our list to do once my husband can sit for longer than 20 minutes at a time. (He’s not quite there yet after his back surgery). I’ve heard such great things about it!
