YOP13 Week 9/53 – more spinning

Knitting

I thought about starting my second linen Quick Sand cardigan, I worked out how many German short rows I want to add to the back of the neck but just didn’t get started on it.

Yesterday I cast on the Alaska hat, but I’m using DK yarn (instead of 4 ply). Having read other Ravelry projects where they’ve used DK I am hoping it will be ok size wise. I’ve cast on 120 instead of 144 stitches and using needle size 3.5mm and will switch to 3.75mm for the colourwork section. My trees ate the green and the sky is the dark blue. It’s the leftover yarn from my Hastings Mitts. The yarn is Isager Yarn Jensen that I bought last year in Copenhagen.

Spinning

My baby camel and silk advent is really coming together now. I plied the beige which has given me 166 meters of 3 ply.

I spun and plied some kingfisher blue (left skein in photo) giving 58m of 3 ply. I’ve also finished a single of a mid blue that I need to ply.

Here’s a snap of most of what I’ve spun from the advent so far. I have some acid yellowish days that I haven’t yet spun and will not be part of what I make and there’s a peach colour not shown here, it’s a bit orangey for my liking and was accidentally 2 ply not 3.

There’s a few more mid-blue days to spin and a couple of beige with an orange red running through it that I’m not sure would be included. Maybe the pinks are a bit too bright, but as I don’t know what pattern I’m going to make hard to tell.

Other News

Well it’s becoming clear I am going to need to adjust my expectations on how much crafting I can get done now I’m working part time. I’ll leave my list as it is but accept I won’t achieve a lot of the things on there.

The weather was cold enough yesterday to wear my Sunday Sweater that’s made in alpaca yarn! I think autumn is knocking on the door and I’m very happy to welcome it back and start wrapping up. For a millisecond I thought about ordering a ton of yarn to make a larger Havana blanket…but remembered I’ve promised myself to clear down some stash before I order a blanket quantity! Plus we do have other bought blankets to snuggle under on the sofa.

Work was a bit of a struggle this week, hopefully next week will be better. I’ve got on top of our own finances and had a bunch of Guild paperwork to do as well, so it’s felt like I’ve been sat at a desk full time this week. I’m hugely grateful I don’t actually need to have a full time job.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. Definitely need to give yourself an expectation break. I can’t imagine knitting while I was working. In the evenings, I just wanted to “veg” on the coach watching TV. I would not want to be trying to figure out a pattern.

  2. The hat looks like it is going to be just fine as far as size goes. Your spinning is great. So many lovely colors to play with. I found knitting in the evenings, after dinner, was the best way to relax my mind and body after a full day of work. My job was medical billing and so I sat at a desk for 8 hours a day staring at a computer and typing or being on the phone with a patient. The last thing I wanted to do when I got home was talk on the phone or look at a computer screen. Knitting and crocheting were my godsend.

  3. Your spinning is beautiful! I love the soft sheen of the finished skeins. Whatever you decide to make with it is going to be stunning.

Changing or adding in a job is always tough with the changes it brings to an established schedule but it sounds like you’re settling in a bit. I think giving yourself some grace on previously established goals/plans is smart.

  4. That is a very cool hat and your colors for it are looking great. You’ve gotten a lot of spinning done so don’t be too hard on yourself. The job is definitely going to cut into your craft time.
