YOP13 Weeks 11-12/53 – Mostly Warmness FO

Acquisitions/Stash Management

I did a yarn swap with Ali, one of the vloggers that I follow on YouTube (Little Drops of Wonderful / This Little Wonderful Life channels). I sent her a 100g skein of Cookston Crafts Granite 2 coloured yarn for a project she was working on. She sent me back a 50g skein of what is like Granite 3 (darker) and some minis for my blanket. I thought I had photographed them before I added them to my blanket, but here’s what’s left of the minis now.

Knitting

Accessories

I finished knitting my Mostly Warmness cowl in the beautiful merino, silk, yak yarn from Ripples Crafts in the colour Oh My! It isn’t blocked and I probably won’t bother.

This is the 2nd one I’ve made and a more detailed post on the previous one can be found here.

Other/Household

I finally finished my Habitation Throw, thanks to the scraps I received in the swap mentioned above. There’s a separate post about it. It’s not really a thing of beauty, and there are some sections I find pretty offensive…BUT…I feel like it was free because it really is scraps and wasn’t quantities that could have become a sock of any one colour. Also the pattern was free during Covid…so other than the zillion hours knitting it, it hasn’t really cost me anything which feels good.

Other News

I was away visiting friends from Wednesday to Tuesday and had such a fun week.

I travelled down to Cheshire on the train, which took about the same amount of time as driving (8-9 hours) and cost slightly less than the petrol would have cost. Plus I got to chill out and could knit.

There was a heatwave, cars were covered in sand from the Sahara desert in Africa that had travelled north on the warm winds and came down when it rained. It was pretty odd seeing every car covered in reddish dust.

I had lunch with my folks, went to Tatton Park gardens, had dinner with a friend, stayed with another, and then 6 of my friends and I all stayed for a long weekend in a friend’s amazing and huge holiday cottage on Anglesey (an island off the coast of North Wales).

We took advantage and swam in the sea, dined outside at a lovely restaurant. Played pool, table tennis, fusball, sat in the hot tub and drank prosecco and spiced rum with ginger ale and a wedge of lime….highly recommend.

It was a fabulous long weekend. I then got dropped off at one of my oldest friends and we went for lunch and caught up, I stayed a night there and then the next morning it was time to head back on the train. She had a tiny black kitten that got in my bag but I summoned all my strength to leave her behind 😂🤣 not sure my dog would be impressed with a kitten but gosh they are fun.

Whilst I was away my dad was taken to A&E with heart problems and got a pacemaker fitted and now he’s back home and doing really well.

So that’s what I’ve been up to the last couple of weeks. I’ll hold my hands up and say I have not had time to catch up on others’ blogs the last week or so, but I’ll start afresh and keep up to date with new posts.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. I like your Habitation Throw but I love all things colorful. I adore the color of your cowl. It’s a beautiful color on you. I have yarn in that color that I was planning to use to knit my granddaughter’s sweater but then I decided to do a striped sweater using some fall color yarn paired with some white. Both from my stash. What a fantastic trip! Glad to hear your dad is doing well. We will be meeting with his cardiologist in a week to see if they should try something else to control his AFib. The drug he is on is not doing anything.

  2. Kitten cuteness can be so hard to resist. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. Habitation turned out really nicely. I like all the different colors, it keeps it interesting.

  3. Love your cowl and I like the fact that it goes up high on your neck. The habitation shawl is so pretty…I love scrappy anything. Your trip sounded like lots of fun and a nice long train ride would be heaven to me…I love trains. The Sahara Desert sand was a real surprise just to hear about it. I can’t imagine your surprise.
So glad your Dad is doing well now.

  4. It looks like you had fun with family and friends, it’s always nice away. I think a train ride would be wonderful, so much time to knit and not worry about traffic when you have to drive any distance.
