YOP13 Week 30/53 – a busy week

It’s funny I was going to start this post with “Where does the week go?”, but as this year I have a different type of journal that allows me to fill in each hour of the day I can actually see where all of my time has gone 😂

As I write this (on Saturday) I’ve only just caught up on the last two weeks’ of my fellow YOPers’ blogs. I hate when I get behind looking at their beautiful makes, some of which I’d like to add to my queue one day. (Link to our group is at the bottom of this post if you’d like to see what they are up to as well.)

Acquisitions/Stash Management

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I was saying how many miles of yarn I have and it will last me years blah blah blah….well I’ve bought more yarn 🤣😂🤣

I was thinking in 2024 I’d like to receive a non-superwash advent, so was just doing a little research and found Bluebell Yarns who only dye and sell British non-superwash yarns. I was just having a little look at their website and spotted some yarns on sale, beautiful chunky Texel yarn that would easily make a beautiful hat! So before I knew it I’d purchased 2 skeins.

Felting

I constructed the shades and got them dropped off at the gallery to be shipped to the customer who requested them. She’d asked for similar ones which is why they are alike. I think she’s maybe gifting them as they had a deadline to arrive.

I forgot to photograph them before wrapping them

I did not find time to felt any others.

Knitting

Accessories

So those gorgeous Texel yarns I just bought needed a pattern and I picked The Carmel Beanie. Oh hello, it’s addictive and a fun to knit, why are slipped stitch projects so fun?

Here’s where I’m up to already…I only started it Thursday.

I’ve had to take my needles off my blanket to knit on it, but I’ve ordered another set of 5.5mm and 6mm needles though because it’s crazy only having 1 set of each in my equipment.

Jumpers/cardigans

I did knit on my Turtle Dove last Sunday but it’s at the stage of needing to try it on and maybe start the hem, maybe I’ll do the sleeves next instead. Right now the hat is all I want to knit on though.

Spinning

I had a couple of spinning calls this week so I have got some spinning done. I finished a peach and a blueish grey of baby camel and silk.

I am very annoyed at myself, I realised too late that 5 of my advent minis are 2 ply and 12 are 3 ply! What a numpty! I’m not sure if I’ll need to do separate projects with them or do a forgiving pattern like Nightshift or The Shift where yarn thickness seems less important.

Still annoyed at myself on one of the calls I spent the whole call going through my handspun and digging out all the yarns I’d spun but not set. Then after the call I did a huge setting session (soaking and snapping the yarn).

Yarns drying

Technically I’ve also not set the 600g of John Arbon Harvest Hues, nor the dozens of breeds and advent minis I’ve spun, but there’s only so much room I have to dry it. Set your yarns as you go Liz! This is the lesson this week.

Other News

My car was in the garage this week to get the windscreen water jet looked at, they called me and told me it worked fine. Turned out they had flushed through someone else’s car washer and filled it with new windscreen wash 😂🤣

Mine it turns out the motor does need replacing, as I’d originally suggested! (It stopped making the whrr noise) I’ve now got to wait until next week for them to fit it as the part needed ordering in from Honda. Why is everything so expensive on cars?! Wish I was a mechanic now 🔧 I’m going away for a long weekend soon so I’m glad I’m going by train and not taking my money pit car!

We got some snow 🙌 then we got masses of snow in one day, 25cm/10” of the stuff!

Ylva with snow up to her armpits.

Not the right snow for building a snowman unfortunately. The next day it all started to melt and there’s flooding all over the place as the drains can’t cope and the soil is all waterlogged from months of rain so now it’s ugly brown slush everywhere. But I loved the few white snowy days.

I decluttered my toiletries this week, some of them were 9 years old and every declutter I thought I’d use them but ended up not so now they’ve gone. I have make up I should declutter that is ancient but something is holding me back, despite me never wearing make up.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. I met Becca of Bluebell Yarns at last year’s StitchFestSW. She’s really lovely. I bought only one skein, with the plan being I will make her a special shiny to swap for some more. Mine is a deep green, but I haven’t had a go with it yet. Your colours look gorgeous

  2. SALE, did someone say sale??!! So hard to resist sales. Great yarns and the hat is beautiful. Plus you need it for the winter right!! Sounds like a lot of yarn to set. But all those beautiful autumn colors! Have a wonderful trip. Car repairs are indeed a pain and so freaking expensive now that everything is electrical.

  3. Lovely hat. You sure did use the newly acquired yarn quickly. You did so much in the spinning category. I sure wish I understood spinning terms. But it sounds like you have a bit of catch up work to do in that area. I do like the newly spun yarns. Boo on car repairs.

  4. Your lamp shades are always beautiful, I’m sure she will love them!

Oh my goodness, all that hand spun yarn! Making me look lazy girl :P. I need to finish a spin I have on my wheel because another one is calling my name and it helps to have your favorite wheel with something on it so you don’t start another lol.

  5. Woah! That’s a lot of snow all at once for you, isn’t it? The sad brown muck is my least favorite part of winter. Your felting looks fabulous, as usual – those colors are superb. I try to keep up with finishing my yarn as soon as it’s plied too. I’m afraid if I don’t, they will be forgotten until the moment I want to use them. :/

  6. Your new yarn is beautiful and it’s what you have been after so that doesn’t count anyway! The hat is lovely and your spinning, as always, is gorgeous 😍
