YOP13 Weeks 38 & 39/53

We were away on the West Coast of Scotland during week 38 so this post is covering the last two weeks. Although that week I only added a few rows to my blanket.

Felting

This has been a prep week, so not very photograph worthy.  I cut out a lot of UK Shetland wool pre-felt pieces that I use for the base layer of the lampshades I make.

From the trimmings of this pre-felt I needle felted 7 bauble shapes.  They aren’t decorated yet.

Knitting

Other/household

I’ve only been working on my Gansey blanket the last couple of weeks.  It is progressing well and I am on the last (6th) ball of the light grey and have the remainder of the 1 ball of darker grey.  I drafted a chart for a personalised section which had my initials and the year, knitted it after the photo below was taken, but it’s just not legible so I’ll be unpicking that and just sticking to the pattern. The yarn is Isle of Auskerry North Ronaldsay Wool from Orkney’s seaweed-eating sheep.

I made a mistake forgetting the two stocking stitch rows on either side of the last diamond section.  I’m not worried.

The stitch marker shows progress since last time

I’ve picked my next gnome to knit so may get that cast on next week.

Other News

We had a second stay at Pier Cottage in Kingairloch which was amazing. I love it so much there, it’s so quiet, so dark at night, so much wildlife to be seen. We fed the pine martens each night and got some photos and video of them. We saw lots of deer, some escaped Highland Cows off on an adventure past our house, seals, different birds than we see at home and a couple of glimpses of an otter. It’s a magical place. This time The Boathouse restaurant was open and my goodness we ate (and spent) so much! My MIL had given us some money for our 16th wedding anniversary, a couple of weeks ago, so that went towards the meal. If you ever are in the area we highly recommend it. More details about Kingairloch can be found on my Travel post I did from the first time we stayed there in December 2022. We chatted to the gardener this time and how lucky he is to have a job planting veggies etc in a walled garden in this location. We will go back a third time I’m sure.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.
