YOP13 Week 42/53 – Acquisitions galore!

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

I mentioned last week my order from World of Wool, including a frame loom, some pre-felt, some new breeds for my spinning study (Devon, Exmoor Horn, Lleyn and Lonk) and 300g of Polwarth for me to dye and spin.  More on the frame loom in the Weaving section.

Not an exciting photo 😂

Because there was an offer on, I was sent a 250g bag of free fibre.

I’ve had free fibre bags before during their offers and they have sometimes been disappointing.  This time I’m absolutely thrilled with the fibres they’ve sent.

  • 6 beautiful merino and stellina or angellina (sparkles) blends, perfect for fairy dresses.
  • An orange and a black merino, perfect for Halloween decoration.
  • Grape coloured flax which may be nice in a landscape to represent heather.
  • An unknown fibre in dark blue. Maybe what they call bio-nylon I’m not certain.

On Wednesday I had a day out!  I drove about half way down the side of Loch Ness to a Guild friend’s home and business, Bunloit Woolery.  There I picked up some New Lanark Aran Yarn…my favourite yarn as most regular readers will know.

I bought 6 skeins of the Raspberry, 1 skein of the New Natural and 1 skein of the Blue John wool/silk blend.  The blue is so nice I was tempted to buy a jumper quantity of that as well 😂🤣.

I bought 8 skeins for the great price of £60.  To buy these from New Lanark Spinning direct it would have cost £76 plus postage.

On my way back I bought some paint to decorate my craft room and from IKEA a new long desk which will replace the old corner desk which came from my MIL’s.  The new desk is 2m long / 6′ -ish so will be much more suitable for all my crafting needs.  It arrives next week so hopefully next Sunday I’ll be able to show you my new set up.

Knitting

Other/household

I cast on a new gnome, Gnome Is Where The Heart Is (Gnemo).  You start with the hat and having never done colourwork on such a small scale and with DPNs my tension is a bit of a mess with some floats too short.  I’ll give it a soak and hopefully that will improve.

Spinning

My mid-week spin and chat friend has broken her elbow roller skating! I didn’t spin without her and she’ll be out of action the next few weeks. Get well soon Sarah.

Weaving

It’s was the Guild Meeting on Saturday, so I took my new loom with me and warped it and did a tiny bit of tapestry weaving on it. I was tied up helping on something whilst there, plus we had an EGM during part of the day, so I didn’t do as much as I’d hoped to have done to show here.

Other News

I painted my craft room on Thursday and Friday.  It had been a yellow I wasn’t keen on so I have painted it pink!  It’s a subtle pink and goes well with the green carpet. Once the desk is all set up I’ll do some before and after photos.

All this shopping and decorating does mean there hasn’t been much crafting happening. I did find myself getting a bit overwhelmed with all my “stuff” this week so hopefully I can start making and selling items to reduce the amount of stuff I do have. I’m fine with what’s in my Kallax units, it’s all the excess stuff in the two wardrobes that gets to me.  I feel like it will all be used eventually though so hard to declutter.

Phew well done if you made it this far 😉

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.
