This has been a very busy week! To be honest I should have done a personal update separately as so much has happened this week but I’ve snuck them together and if you are just hear for the crafting that’s fine to skip the Other News. 🙂
Felting
I’ve laid out fibres for 3 x 25cm shades that I hopefully will felt next Tuesday. They look different once felted but here’s them laid out.
I’ve also made a start on some fairies but they are just 8 disembodied heads at the moment!
Spinning
I have now soaked and snapped (set) my handspun baby camel and silk.
I often think I should set as I go, but it was lovely seeing it hanging together. (I dried them outside.)
I realised with my breed study this batch washing will not work because I’ll lose track of which yarn is which, so I need to make a start on setting them. Hopefully I won’t get them all muddled.
Talking of my breeds I plied my Lonk, Lleyn and Charollais breeds.
Other News
So this week I was back part time working in an office Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at the company I’d left in February. I still remembered pretty much how to do everything so that was a relief and slotted back in. I was supposed to do 2 weeks, but was asked if I’d be willing to go back permanently and I have said I’d consider 2 days a week which she was very happy with, so we will talk again on Monday about what days and hours.
On Monday, after work, I planted some more vegetable seeds and made granola.
I jet washed part of the fence on Tuesday to remove the green algae? stuff ready to repaint it. I tried scrubbing it, but it wasn’t coming off… whoosh with the jet wash it was very quick to come off.
Its probably 5+ years since I last painted it. I also need to re-paint the woodwork on our front door and window frames this year too, plus walls up the stairs and the garage door!!
On Wednesday, after work I went out on my Standup Paddleboard (SUP) with a lady I’d not met before, and saw 4 of my other friends on the same loch too. We seem to have skipped Spring and gone straight to Summer. It was too hot even for my shortie wetsuit…mind you that’s a bit snug on me at the moment so glad I didn’t need it. I fell in which is the first time for a few years. Given how warm it was I didn’t mind, although I got quite the mouthful of the loch water and some was swallowed 🤢.
Thursday I did a little more decluttering, laid out the lampshades and made a start on some fairies.
After work on Friday I went to the cinema to see IF. What a cute movie. I really enjoyed it and my friend and I both laughed out loud and both cried. Apparently there’s a bit after the credits that we missed, but I’ll see it when its eventually streamed. Definitely worth a re-watch.
Yesterday I put a coat of varnish on our ancient picnic table. We never sit at it, but the pizza oven goes on it so it may as well look prettier! I had done 4 loads of laundry that was hanging on the line next to it…so I didn’t sand it…nor did I even clean it. It was so thirsty it just guzzled up the varnish so we shall see how it lasts!
Phew! No wonder I haven’t knitted a stitch this week. Apologies to those of you who come here for the knitting content. I can see me moving MANY things from this YOP year’s list to next one in a few weeks time. Ah well.

well, yes and no, in that I am still weaving, but also getting into all sorts of additional fiber crafts… all stemming from the need to manage stress at work, thank heavens for fluffy crafty things that keep us sane!

I love that middle fiber-scape. It looks like the sea washing up on a warm sandy beach. The table turned out really good. Its hard to imagine its the same table; such a transformation. Sometimes busy weeks are good.

WOW, what a difference that varnish made!! I would not have realized. Your yarns look beautiful. Makes a great display. We seem to be having similar hot weather here in Ohio. It feels like July instead of May.

Isn’t it incredible how much better it looks. Last year it was always too windy to paint it without getting bits on it so I caught the right window to paint it.

You were VERY productive, even if not knitting. And how kind of you to be willing to return to work permanently. I knew someone who did something similar because her expertise was invaluable, though she retired again about two years later.

We’ve agreed a new contract today, from June I’ll do 2 x 6 hr days a week, rather than 3 x 5 hrs. Hopefully it’ll go better.

Busy week on many fronts – it makes it hard to slot in crafting time but perhaps when your schedule gets more set? Looking forward to seeing those beautiful shades!

So nice to read about all aspects of your life. Thame picnic table looks brand new! Great job. Power washing is amazing. We do that to the concrete around our pool area. It is amazing how dirty it gets but doesn’t show it. Your lampshade lay puts already look pretty even without being felted. I think it is the colors laying together that really catches my eyes.

I would not have thought a person could make that kind of change from such a weathered piece. It’s nice to have a job that suits you. I’m glad for you that they will work with your hour needs and desires.
