YOP13 Week 52/53 – Socks FO and craft sightseeing

Just as a reminder this YOP year has an extra week, so my round-up post will be next week.

As I was away for a long weekend, then catching up with home and garden tasks, travel blog writing etc. there’s not been as much crafting this week.

Knitting

Socks

My socks came away with me and got some attention on the train. I don’t like knitting in bed so the only knitting in the hotel was picking up the heel flap stitches.  I finished them yesterday afternoon.

It’s kind of the Hermione’s Everyday sock, with the purl bump curling round the sock, until I was on the instep of the foot and couldn’t be bothered continuing it 😂

The toe is from the Rose City Rollers pattern.

Other News

Last Sunday I went to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.   It had lots of rooms filled with enormous tapestries covering the walls.  Having done a tiny amount of tapestry weaving it really gives you a better appreciation of the enormous amount of work that has gone into them.

On Monday, I had a lovely morning at the V&A (Victoria and Albert) Dundee doing their free tour, then paid to see their “Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk Exhibition” and finished with a delicious lunch.

It has inspired me to weave myself a length of probably cotton, or maybe using the Harris tweed yarn in my stash, and sew myself a cotton dressing gown or wool light jacket that would be kimono inspired.  (I’ll add this to my YOP14 list.)

On the Friday I’d enjoyed their tasty Japanese inspired afternoon tea.  I finished everything except a cherry chocolate cake which tasted a bit ground almond-ish to me.  My favourite was a Yuzu Posset with black sesame cookie.  (Yuzu is a citrus fruit that tastes like lemon and mandarin). Delicious.

At the V&A they also had “The Creature Collective by Donna Wilson”, which was an exhibit of knitted characters in a roughly rainbow order.  So I would recommend a visit if you are passing.

The Verdant Works is also worth a visit, it was where jute was processed, spun and woven.

I’ll probably do a separate post just about the Verdant Works on this blog, as it was such an interesting place.

For more details of my trip to Dundee see my travel blog post.

It was great to come back home though. I’d missed my husband and dog, pottering in the greenhouse and garden, knitting in my comfortable armchair, walks with my neighbour etc. I feel very lucky to be so content with my life.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  2. What a grand trip you had. The palace looks like it would be fun to explore. Your socks look good. I seldom carry the pattern past the leg of the sock. No one but me sees them anyway. Coming home from a trip us always the best.
