YOP14 Week 9/52 – mostly a personal update

Knitting

Accessories

Last Sunday, after my blog post, I realised I’d not been slipping stitches on one side of the cowl so the icord looked odd so I unpicked the 14 rows!  Then during the week I’ve re-knitted them so there’s not a huge amount of progress to show.

Spinning

I have plied the first batch of the alpaca silk blend from Coastal Colours.  Winding it off the bobbin onto my niddy noddy (to make a skein) was a challenge because of my shoulder, but I found a way.

Other News

Well, it’s been a week of highs and lows.

The highs…I was off on Monday as I swapped to work Friday (month end).  This worked out great as my husband’s workplace were on holiday on Monday.  So we went out for lunch with the dog.

On Wednesday, after work, I went to see Blink Twice.  I enjoyed it, but it’s dark and violent in parts, it has a lot of trigger warnings so check those before you go.  It was interesting to see Channing Tatum in a different type of role, not his usual Mr Nice Guy.  Zoe Kravitz did a great job directing it in my opinion.

On Friday my boss told me she is giving me a pay increase 😊.  I only work 12 hours a week but that extra money will help as my lampshade income will obviously reduce because of my shoulder.

I’ll be honest my shoulder pain is getting me down now.  I didn’t really do much at all at home this week, various loads of laundry, that I needed my husband to help hang up.  On Thursday I ate so much sugar when I logged what I’d eaten on the Fitbit app it came to 2,900 calories! And I’m pretty sure I underestimated how much Ben and Jerry’s vegan chocolate brownie ice cream I had!

The weather has finally improved during the day so people in my SUP WhatsApp group are making plans to go out and I can’t go because of my shoulder.  Nights are getting colder so lots of leaves are turning so autumn is here yay!

I need to find a new routine for my non-working days.  I have already booked my cinema ticket to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on Friday so I’m really looking forward to that.

I published a post earlier this week showing my Story Graph graphs for my reading.  I’ve finished 10 books in August (5 read/5 audio).  At least that is something I can do with a sore arm!

Hopefully  next week I’ll have some more crafting to show.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

  1. Physical pains sure can get to you, can’t they? How nice to get a raise when you didn’t expect it. Your spinning looks very cozy. I am sorry you are not able to get on your SUP. You do love working out on it. Maybe by next season you will be back out there with all your friends.

  2. I did think of you and your SUP when you posted about having a frozen shoulder. I know how distressing it was for my step-daughter. It’s not much consolation, but it will eventually get better. Hmm, movie critic in your future?? I’m having enough trouble with my weight and I have no excuse except I keep eating and drinking high calorie items. My son experimented with making mocha ice cream last night and being a good mom, I had to “taste” some. Glad I’m not the only one discovering mistakes that require ripping back. Just finished ripping out my Pressed Flowers and now I’m ready to try once again. This is it though. If it doesn’t fit, it goes to someone that it does fit!!

  3. Hmm, looks like my comment didn’t come through. Best wishes as you work through your frozen shoulder. I know it was very distressing for my stepdaughter. I know it’s not much consolation, but it should eventually get better. I think movie critic sounds like a fun hobby. Congratulations on the pay raise.

  4. That pay raise is some good news. I’m glad your value is seen and acknowledged. I’m so sorry that your shoulder is getting you down – I can totally appreciate how that would be. And I relate to often eating too much sugar and/or comfort food when something is not feeling good. Hugs to you, Liz. Praying that you start feeling improvement in your shoulder.

  5. Congrats on your pay raise! Little blessings come here and there don’t they :). I hope you shoulder will gradually get better faster than they say. Would an anti inflammatory help, like turmeric? I take the doTERRA capsules because it has both the oil and the dry powder (it’s a capsule in a capsule to keep them separate, they both do different things) for the arthritis in my knees and it helps mine a lot. When I forget to take it for a few days I can tell the difference.

I hope my issues with my blanket didn’t rub off on your knitting!!!

OH my goodness, I understand the ice cream, hahaha. Ice cream one of my favorites too. When I’m feeling down, I want ice cream!! My favorite is the Whitey’s White chocolate/raspberry, oh my it’s to die for! I think the white chocolate is the vanilla looking ice cream in-between the raspberry swirls, because it has nice big chunks of reg chocolate too! Fortunately for me, they are frequently out of it, because I could eat the whole half gallon!

    • That ice cream would be a hit with my husband, he love’s white chocolate and raspberry. His favourite is cherry though but it’s hard to find Cherry Garcia flavour here. But when we have been in America that’s what he goes for. I’m all about the chocolate or hazelnut ice creams or mango sorbet. My first job at 16 was in an ice cream shop. Regularly would buy half a litre tub and eat it on my way home!! And surprisingly not want any dinner 😂🤣. I’m going to try to get a phone appointment with my GP about pain killers and will ask about turmeric supplements. I have a liver disease and have had nasty reactions to some natural remedies supposed to be good for the liver, like Milk Thistle so I best check what she thinks. Thanks for the suggestion though.
