YOP14 Week 15/52 – band weaving

Felting

I needle felted a small pumpkin this week. About 2.5” wide.  I may make some more in different sizes.  This one is decorating my husband’s desk at home.

Knitting

Accessories

This week I finished my Classic Ribbed Hat by Purl Soho in La Bien Aimee Corrie Worsted.  I followed the pattern for the crown decreases but ended up with it having a nipple on the top!  So I ripped back to the base of it and then pulled in the stitches from there and that seems much better.

Spinning

I did an hour of spinning but I’m still spinning the alpaca/silk I started 12 weeks ago!  It should be finished next week.

Weaving

Rigid heddle loom

On Saturday I was on a band weaving course using a Baltic pick up pattern.  When I got home I finished it but my tension wasn’t as good.  Bands are warp facing so you shouldn’t see any of the weft (horizontal) threads.  Its 90cm (35.5″).  You can do this on an inkle loom or a rigid heddle, I did it on my rigid heddle Sampleit loom, but with a little band weaving heddle.

Other News

I made some pumpkin muffins this week that were finally a success.  Turns out I had mixed up writing the baking powder and bicarbonate of soda amounts years ago…this time I swapped them and hurrah successful muffins.

With the leftover pumpkin I made some pumpkin and lentil soup…because my soup always needs lentils.

Having avoided the craze during lockdown, I have had a go at making a sourdough starter. We have been buying it and I’m a lot less bloated and sluggish without the yeast.  So later today I’ll have a go at making a loaf!

We had some tree guys come this week.  7 trees were cut to the ground because they were dead or dying or in the wrong place and struggling as half trees.  They also trimmed lots of others. I wish I had taken some before photos for my garden blog.  Its quite a change but we will get used to the lost trees eventually.  I will need to do some trimming of 2 smaller maples and an oak and tackle our enormous dogwood shrubs.  Just not sure my shoulder is up to it yet.

Its definitely better for me to keep as busy as I can without making my frozen shoulder worse.

This is a Year of Projects post.  Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating.  If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

  1. That felted pumpkin is soooo cute!!! What did you use for the tendrils on there?

How is your shoulder feeling? It’s getting better right? I use to think I would like to weave, but I wouldn’t enjoy setting the loom up. If all I had to do was push the shuttle back and forth I’d be all in :P.

  2. The felted pumpkin is sweet. I like the little vines coming from the stem. The hat is very nice. Such a pretty colors too. Glad you rid it of the Ripple. Sound like your garden is getting all spiffing up. Just in time for winter.

  3. The needle felted pumpkin is SO CUTE! I love the curly lock used as the vine – what a great idea 🙂 Your hat looks good too, and love your woven band. 7 trees is a lot to lose at one! Also, all of your baking and cooking experiments sound yummy. I’m looking forward to hearing how your sourdough goes/1
