Tablet Weaving – Minions

Those of you who know me well will be aware I love all things Minion. So of course when getting to grips with tablet weaving I wanted to make a band with Minions.

I found an initial pattern on Tablet Weaving in Theory and Practice blog post a couple of years ago. Catherine also has a video on YouTube about the way she evolved the pattern.

I liked it but it wasn’t quite right for my obsessive knowledge of them. The red tongue seems wrong, goggle straps were missing, their arms are longer, the goggles were coming out oval, they wear black gloves and I wanted some hair, so he would look more like Stuart…he has ended up looking more like Carl, ah well! (Yes I do know my different Minion names 😂)

On Christmas Day I made more tweaks and started weaving. Today I finished weaving and made such a stupid mistake, when cutting the warp I accidentally cut through part of the band. It’s very irritating but it is what it is. I had made 2 short lengths that I’d secured the hems on that I’m going to have a go at making into key fobs. But the long piece, which is now in two.

In case anyone else would like to weave the Minion pattern that I’ve adapted I’m sharing it here. I have 2 more tablet cards in my pack so when I make another I’m going to tweak it again, so it’s got Stuart’s hair.

To create your own designs you can click on the Tablet Weaving Draft Designer link on Catherine’s blog I mentioned above. Her husband created the app. There are other tools available free online too. I really like this one.
