YOP14 Week 33/52 –  Singing Stones Fingerless Mittens FO

Knitting

Accessories

I finished my 2nd Singing Stone mitten and undid the cast off edge of the first and re-did it looser, so I’m much happier with the fit.

The pattern is by Becci Pamely-Bast.  It is easy and enjoyable.   Its knit and slip stitches mostly.

I bought the pattern and yarns from RiverKnits.  I still have quite a lot left (50g).  Its designed for her chimera and nene yarns (100% non-superwash BFL).   They don’t seem to do the kits any more but the pattern and full skeins are available on her website shop still.

My hands turned blue knitting them which is odd since no dye seemed to come out when I washed and rinsed them a few times.

Spinning

I only did a tiny bit of spinning this week and that was on my Turkish spindle. I met for lunch (and spin in public) 6 of the ladies from the Guild’s January challenge.

We had such a lovely afternoon at the cafe in the Culloden Battlefield visitor centre. We ate, spun and chatted away for a few hours and had a walk out to the memorial on the Battlefield,  some of the ladies spindling the whole way!

A couple of the people working there asked some questions and when it was mentioned we had demonstrated there year’s ago that got him thinking and he took some contact details.  My spinning isn’t worth seeing.

I handed over my 3rd chicken to its new owner at the lunch and she was made up with it.  A few times I saw her stroking it and picking it up for another cuddle.  It also got passed round for everyone else to have a cuddle too.

On Saturday’s spinning interest group I shared some info about the World of Wool Advent calendar as many have considered buying it before.

Weaving

Inkle loom

I’ve designed a pattern to make a belt. I was playing with the software trying to replicate the design from a shoelace on the cover of a weaving magazine.  It was an old edition so I don’t have access to the real pattern but think mine is similar.

The problem is I used all the darker colour in the warp, but the weft should have used that too.  Using the paler pink is giving me ugly dots along the edge.

To fix this I could add another tablet on either side in the pale pink.  I only just warped it yesterday, so I’ll probably do that today.

Other News

The beginning of the week I was mostly on my PC trying to consolidate all my photos and documents, so there hasn’t been as much crafting as usual.

My husband and his brother are doing a little trip across to the Isle of Skye for a couple of nights. It’s been nice and sunny but below freezing temps so there are snow capped mountains I’m missing out on, but someone needs to stay home and look after Frankie 🦜.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

Year 14 list.

  1. Love the belt but appreciate the dots weren’t intended. I shared with the weavers at my knitting group about your weaving shoelaces. Now that gets me interested! Unfortunately, I’d only need one set. How great your hubby gets to spend some time with his brother. Love the mitts. I’m sure you could apply the pattern to a pair of socks as well.

  2. Your Singing Stone Mittens are a pretty finish, Liz. And how interesting to go knitting in public at a place so rich in history. Sounds like you might be invited back to spin for visitors? Sounds like fun.

  3. Your singing stone mitts came out very nice, right now I’m wearing a pair from my son’s alpaca store (they are very warm) until I get a pair spun and knit up for myself. But before that I have to finish a pair I started for a Christmas gift and didn’t get them done!

Your weaving is very cool and that you are making your own design.

  4. The mitts are lovely! In my head I joked that apparently any excess dye came off on your hands, so there was none left when you soaked and rinsed them. That sounds weird, indeed!

The luncheon with your spinning group sounds lovely. My heart melted a little when you mentioned the Culloden Battlefield. I’ve watched Outlander a few times, and I was born on the anniversary of the battle, so it particularly resonates with me.

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Your mitts and new belt are lovely! I actually like the pale pink dots, but it sounds like you are not a fan 🙂 The luncheon sounds like so much fun! What a great day, and how cool it would be to demonstrate there for an event 🙂
