YOP14 Week 48/52 – Shoelaces FO

Spinning

This week I finished spinning 2 more advents, days 11 and 23.

Weaving

Inkle loom

I finished my shoelaces!  How cute are they?!  Ok so on my tiny feet UK3/US5 and the colour they do maybe lean a little Minnie Mouse-ish but I don’t care.  I love them.

I managed to sort the tension issues from last week and wove every millimetre I possibly good and I don’t think you can really tell that one lace is a few inches longer than the other.  If it becomes obvious then I will cut and move the aglet.

My fitting of the metal aglets is not the greatest but seriously who is going to be getting that close to my feet 🤣

The laces were supposed to be grey with red hearts but when I warped it the first time I forgot you needed two laces so that became a lanyard and by then it was too late to make another one like that because you get so much warp wastage and I would have had to have bought more of the grey yarn.

My Ravelry project page has more details, but the yarn was DMC Coton Perlé 8 and the pattern was from Twistedthreads.org called Flat Shoelace 1. I have some green and black of the same yarn so I’ll be making another pair of shoelaces in the future.

I had warped my Inklette loom with some Sirdar Cotton Prints yarn to take with me on the volunteer day to do with some kids, but as I didn’t go that is now being woven by me. I will share that once it’s finished.

Other News

It was a Bank Holiday on Monday (what we call public holidays) and we went to the garden centre for some bits and a nice lunch. In the evening I started with a really scratchy throat and throughout the week more symptoms joined in the party…sweaty, achy legs, running eyes and nose…you get the drift. I was off sick on Wednesday and wasn’t well enough to volunteer on Thursday.  My nose is still blocked and by Saturday it had set up camp in my sinuses.  Pretty annoying as I just had a cold at the end of March and now another 😒

Perhaps next week I will have picked up my knitting needles that are gathering dust! So few weeks left of this YOP Year it would be nice to tick off another item on my list that isn’t knitting though…so we shall see.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

Year 14 list.

  1. Your shoe laces turned out so cute!!! Those yarns look really soft!

Looks like you and I both have been dealing with a cold this week. I was sick Monday and Tuesday, felt better Wed but still not up to par, and each day I have felt like doing more, just this wonderful congested cough now and some left over sinus congestion. I’m so sick of colds as well!!!

  2. I thought I had left a comment here, Liz, but I must have forgotten to. Love the shoelaces! How fun to be able to string your shoes with fun laces you’ve woven!
