YOP14 Week 49-50/52 – a new toy arrived

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

With the Birthday money from my parents I purchased a new Inkle loom and tablet weaving board attachment.  These are made by Lojan (a split off from Louet).  A friend has the same loom and I had a go of it on my birthday and it has lots of features that I like and must have been designed by someone who actually does tablet weaving.

It arrived on Thursday, I rubbed some walnut oil on to the pieces and constructed it so I will warp it this coming week. I will maybe post a review of it once I have had a go. I am thinking another set of shoelaces!  It was missing its shuttle, but the supplier I used is posting me one.

I will still keep my Schacht Inkle Loom for weaving with string heddles.

Knitting

Shawls

I’m making some progress on my Gemstones shawl, but there’s still one and a half rows of gems left to knit.

Socks

The socks I was making for my husband were frogged.  I had used the same size needle, yarn and stitch count but was using my 25cm circular needles.  Clearly I have much tighter tension when knitting with those in comparison to when I knit two at a time on long circular needles using magic loop.

Spinning

The penultimate fibre from my World of Wool 2024 Fibre Advent was spun, Day 5 (Loathe Entirely…that is the name of the colour not my thoughts).  This leaves just Day 24 (Family Tree) to finish spinning (I am half way through that.)

At yesterday’s Guild Day I had grabbed a packet of fluff from one of my many drawers of fibre.  I only finished spinning the singles late last night,  so will show that once it is plied.  (I realise I sometimes say that and maybe forget to show it later!)

Weaving

Inkle loom

Talking of forgetting…I forgot last Sunday that I did have a finished object I could have shared.  This is a band I wove on my Ashford Inklette loom, using heddles not tablets.  I used Sirdar Cotton Prints mercerised DK cotton.  A friend likes orange and blue together so I have gifted it to her for a lanyard or whatever she wants to use it for.

Other News

This post is a catch up of the last two weeks. The first week was very busy, we went to see an evening with Paul Young (my 80s heartthrob) which was lovely, we went for a lovely meal for my birthday and I had a lovely afternoon with friends spinning.

This week has been a lot less active…in fact this week I really wasted time. Having cured myself of Instagram,  I accidentally started watching shorts on YouTube, which are basically the same as Instagram reels I had the issue with.  Before I knew it Thursday was over and other than oiling and constructing my new loom and eating 100,000 calories I did NOTHING!!

We are looking to rehome our parrot.  My misophonia is really triggered by her calls and shouts she does in the afternoon/early evening.

We won’t put her to a sanctuary, only to someone who genuinely would want her.  A parrot is a big commitment because they live so long.  She is 26 and could easily live that many years again or much more.  My husband and MIL don’t mind her noise at all, but then they also don’t get driven mad by the noise of people eating and ticking clocks.  Our parrot sitter thinks she may have found a couple who may take her so please keep your fingers crossed.

Yesterday, early evening, we got a call from a neighbour in urgent need of help with her dog. She was away and her husband was on a mountain rescue job so she needed someone to walk, feed and give her dog some company. We were more than happy to and it was so lovely having a dog hanging out with us. I took a photo that one of my chickens is photo bombing 😂

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

Year 14 list.

  1. I love the colors and pattern of your lanyard cord. That’s a lucky friend that will get it. While a funny color name, I really like the green and shiny Loathe Entirely. Hmm, seems looms are like yarn, they multiply when not looking.

  2. I think spinning wheels are like potato chips, you can’t have just one! I have two and if I had room I’d find another one I’m sure 😛

I laughed at the name of the color of the yarn you spun, I did at first think you were saying you loathed it hahaha.

Congrats on your new loom, I think they must be like spinning wheels :P.

The weaving on your loom is very pretty, I’m sure your friend will love it :).

Your knitted chicken didn’t want the dog to get all the attention I’m sure :).

  3. That FO weaving project is gorgeous!!! Hoping you have speedy success in re-homing your parrot. And I literally lol’d with your clarification that ‘Loathe Entirely’ is the fiber colorway name, not your opinion. 😂😂😂

  4. I hope you show some pictures of your Inkle Loom in action. I cannot comprehend how that must work. It’s beautiful. And your colorful sash will be a nice gift. How pretty.

I hope it’s okay to say, I’m relieved for you that you’ve decided to rehome your parrot. I don’t know why, but parrot videos have started popping up on my youtube feed lately, and one of them was so obnoxious, I thought of you, and felt sorry if that was what you had to listen to. It put me on edge.

Poor things – they can’t help it, I know. I hope your bird soon finds a home that isn’t disturbed by her noises. And how sweet that you two could readily care for your friend’s dog. It’s nice that you are someone your friend could ask on such short notice.

    • I was really surprised how much I liked the finished band as the orange on its own is not my taste at all. I bought it years ago to make octopuses for premature babies, my crochet skills and tension haven’t been good enough to make those though. Isobel loved it when I gave it to her so that’s worked out well.

  5. Your new loom is beautiful! Can’t wait to see what you make with it 🙂 Your weaving and spinning are gorgeous, as usual! Hope you find a good home for the parrot, and how nice for you guys (and your ES chicken) to have a dog in the house again 🙂
