YOP15 Week 32/52 – new book nook finished

Book Nook

This week I finished my 2nd book nook, Rolife – Cathy’s Flower House.  There are 2 versions of this kit out there and its difficult to tell which one you have until you open it.  Mine is the old version and it says it takes 16-20 hrs to do.  I didn’t time it exactly but know its at least 14 hours it took.  The newer kit, which I suspect is slightly better quality pieces, only takes 7.5 hours.

This one had pieces of paper that all needed sticking with double sided sticky tape bits, whereas the first kit I did they were stickers.  That cutting tape to fit definitely takes longer.  I did make 2 mistakes but I can live with them.

I still really enjoyed it, and although not quite as good quality pieces as the other kit, it is good to now realise this is the older kit not newer. There is a chocolate shop one I fancy doing at some point.  I may need to buy some shelving to keep these 😆.

Knitting

My Litmus Cowl in my handspun baby camel and silk is progressing well.  A totally mindless knit so an ideal project, now the Winter Olympics has started.

The pink section (5 sections back) was a little bit thicker yarn and is a bit wider but when its on I can’t see it being noticeable.   The turquoise and blues keep dyeing my fingers!

I have caked up some New Lanark Aran Yarn in Raspberry and New Natural colour to make a start on a 2nd Fern and Feather by Jennifer Steingass.  In reality now the Olympics is on I won’t cast this on in the next week.

Sewing

I cut out some squares from various fat quarters in my stash, to make bunting.

I got my sewing machine out and thought I would try to open it up to give it a good oil and dust inside…but I couldn’t get the cover off.  Worse I removed a screw that had a nut on the opposite end which is inside the machine.  So it is going to have to go in for a service and get the part put back on that is essential.  I’ve had this machine since the 1990s and it has had only one service in January 2020!  So it will be good to have it back in working order.

Spinning

I have started spinning some merino and mulberry silk blend but will wait to show a photo until it is plied.

Weaving

No time this week to warp any of my looms…next week 🤞

Other News

Well every day after work I was busy doing my book nook. On Thursday I was writing the newsletter for our Guild and then got back to it and finally finished it.

I have been watching Hetty Wainthropp Investigates whilst working on the nook.  This show is 30 years old, but they are re-showing it (on BBC iplayer) because Patricia Routledge died last year.  It has a very young Dominic Monaghan in it of Lord of the Rings fame (plays Merry).  In the 90s I was out most nights so it was something that I had missed at the time and fits in with me watching cosy TV so I can forget the messy real world.

Next week is warping my looms…oh and perhaps doing some laundry and cleaning…maybe 😆

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

  1. I love the look of the Litmus cowl and will be another great addition to your Scottish weather kit!

I love the book nook – I see these in the garden centre and quite fancy one, but an not quite sure where I would put it!

  2. Love the idea of a special shelf to display the book nook. I definitely will be asking for one(s) for Christmas next year. I love the idea of using it as a night light. I’m assuming the battery is replaceable. I plan to stop trying to overwinter plants so my “plant shelf” is available for decoration.
