YOP15 Week 41/52 – Woven handtowels FO

Sewing

Yesterday, whilst my sewing machine was out I thought I would play around with sewing some woven samples into little pouches.

The one on the left was a sample of Diamond Stripe pattern by Kelly Casanova that I wove ages ago using WYS Exquisite Lace.  I have turned it into a glasses pouch for my cheap reading specs.

The smaller pouch is the cotton 4 shaft sample I finished a few weeks ago on my rigid heddle loom that I sewed into a tiny pouch…no idea what I would keep in it!

Spinning

I have spun about 50g of Welsh x Bluefaced Leicester  fibre.  When I have spun the other half and plied it I will show it!

Yesterday I hemmed the towels I recently wove and I am pretty happy with them.  The yarn is Lily’s Sugar’n Cream cotton in white  and Emerald Energy.

Other News

On Thursday I had attempt number 4 to get some blood and unbelievably they still couldn’t get any.  I burst into tears, there must be some in there!  I had been awake 2.5 hours earlier to drink 2 litres, I walked 1.5 miles to the practice to get my blood pumping and drank more water and I was warm.  Still nothing arrrggghhhhh!!

So I go back on Monday and see the nurse practitioner who doesn’t take blood these days because she is too senior, but when I used to have it tested monthly she was the one who could get it…albeit super painful out of the vein at my wrist bone…wish my luck!

There hasn’t been much crafting this week, I did my tax return, have started sorting some stuff to send off to Vintage Cash Cow to help declutter some stuff.

I have been having a think about my blog and whether I am going to have stuff to show each week.  There’s quite a lot that needs doing around the house and in the garden so I may not always have content to share each week.  I guess we will see, but just to say don’t worry if I skip a week or two.  If I have any FOs I will still share them of course.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

Year 15 list.

  1. Your weaving is going great. You are inspiring me with your sewing. I have fabric leftover from my covid mask making days. I have in mind the pouch I want to make to hold my DPNs. Now to just get motivated to clear off my desk around my sewing machine as well as actually figure out exactly how big to cut the squares of fabric to sew them into a cute pouch.

No worry about updates. I’ve enjoyed decluttering posts folks have made. Maybe someday I’ll actually start decluttering. I’m counting the 4 boxes of old financial statements that I was able to get rid of Saturday because a “shread event” was held. The binders that held all that paper are in the trash!! But first it will be clearing my dad’s house. Ugh.

    • I don’t envy you that, its exhausting clearing someone else’s stuff. We brought a car load back with us to go through so you can barely move in the garage now…and a huge pile in my bedroom too…and utility room. Just really need to crack on and get rid of stuff ASAP.

  2. Oh that weaving is stunning. Do not worry about the decluttering posts. I do find them inspiring. After a read I often find a drawer or area that I need to clean out.

I am so sorry you are having such trouble getting blood drawn. My later mother was a “hard stick” towards the end there was really only one person who was successful. I am also not an easy stick myself. It really hurts when they have to try again and again.

  3. So sorry to hear your blood is refusing to come out. Hopefully it will work for you this week. I know my phlebotomists has told me to drink copious amounts of water (8-10 cups) starting 1-2 days ahead of the blood tests. The only draw back is you end up in the bathroom quite a bit LOL. I really like the dish towels. Sugar and Cream is a wonder for kitchen items. Sounds like you are going to be busy in the coming days/weeks getting your MIL house cleaned out and then attacking your hubby’s items he has agreed to let go of. Take care of you!

    • I think thats why I ended up getting upset, disturbed sleep from needing the loo I had drunk so much, setting alarm for 6am to drink a lot. My body just doesn’t seem to like to retain water at all. I wonder if I am constantly dehydrated despite drinking lots of water. Its a nuisance.

  4. That’s so difficult about the blood! I’ll keep you in my prayers. Also, this time of year, the garden seems to be just begging for attention. I spent the afternoon preparing two of my garden beds. Last summer I didn’t do a thing out there because my husband was ill. So there are plenty of weeds and trouble with pests, both animal and insect. It felt good though. It was a sunny day and progress was made.! I hope that you can get out and do some things in the garden. It is quite relaxing (at least for me) and good to get some fresh air!

  5. I love the pouches, Liz! How fun to be able to make fabric you can make other things out of! I am so sorry to hear your blood draws continue to be an ordeal – and unsuccessful. I’ve had difficulties, too, to the point where occasionally an ultrasound has been needed to get a needle in the right spot. But I think you may be a much “harder stick” than even I have been. I am so sorry, and am praying for a successful draw soon. Aside from being painful, I imagine this is very worrying.

  6. I’m so sorry about the blood draw! I quit giving blood (they like my blood I’m a universal donor) but they had people who were very new and the last one kept sticking me and another nurse had to come over and tell him to stop. Why didn’t he know after a couple of sticks he needed to stop? So I decided if they sending trainees to practice on us when we give blood, I’m done.

All those awesome things you you have made!!! I need to get my spinning mojo back, I have misplaced it somewhere :P.

  7. I’m not sure I’d give them more than one chance at poking me! It’s something I tend to avoid, though, as i tend to pass out, disconcerting for all concerned.

There are no rules – if you have nothing to say, why post?? Your stuff is beautiful and an inspiration; I want to see it when it appears, but it’s not something to stress about! Love t he weaving.

Decluttering – I am currently on a new road trip, and one thing is to drop off a miter saw for a summer camp in Maryland. I’ve also given on semi-permanent loan a table loom I haven’t used in years to someone who wants to give it a try. And I will finish and deliver at least one knitting project, maybe two, on this month long trip.
