Spinning

On Tuesday evening during a TDF team zoom, I chain plied the 60% Polwarth and 40% Yak blend from Hilltop Cloud.  I am really happy how the colours came out.  I am a bit rusty at chain plying and had switched to a quicker whirl on my wheel so I should have adapted my normal chain ply rhythm. It will become a hat or maybe a cowl. 

On Thursday afternoon, those of us able to make it went out for lunch and spun outside at The Storehouse, which is a restaurant and shop on the Cromarty Firth.  The location and company were perfect. It was a delightful 4 hours. 

On Saturday morning we had another zoom call, so it’s been quite a sociable spinning week.

On the afternoon out and on the zoom I spun and plied an Advent fibre, but after the call I felt really ill and spent the rest of yesterday on the sofa or toilet.  I shall photograph it for next week’s post.

8-Shaft Loom

So I discovered what the issue was with my loom. Originally, dozens of people on the Lojan Looms group, on Facebook, had recommended following Kelly Casanova’s set up video, which I had done.  What I hadn’t realised was she has a later video corrected a pretty major mistake she had made.

Luckily someone in the Facebook group pointed me in that direction and I was able to fix it.  So if you buy a Lojan Flex Loom and follow her video, make sure you watch the follow up video first so you don’t have to re-do your shaft set-up!!

After a chat with some more experienced weavers at the spinning day afternoon, I have decided to warp up a fairly narrow warp in a pointed twill.  With the fabric I can sew a bag for storing the metal rods that my loom comes with for warping…well that’s the plan.  Hopefully I will feel better soon.

Other News

Apart from what I have already mentioned I cut our lawn which was its first time since 30th April. The wild orchids that still were with us I mowed around.  The weather has been very dry and sunny so watering mine and a neighbour’s veg patch ate up the rest of the week.  Despite weeks of rain in June and July there are terrible wildfires in the Cairngorm Mountain National Park.

We are both missing my bosses’ dog, I had to take her back on Tuesday 😢.   (I work for a married couple in case you think my apostrophe is in the wrong place!)
