Felting
So nobody faint, but I recently did some felting! It’s been a looong time since I’ve done any. My mum mentioned she’d like some characters for her Christmas tree for her birthday, so I made a fairy and a couple of Tomte. They were actually made a week earlier but I wanted to wait until after her birthday to show them. My mum tells me the blue fairy has set up home in their blue dining room, the Tomte are resting until Christmas.

I’ve found a pattern I’m going to try with the John Arbon Yarnadelic Sport weight Falkland merino and CaMaRose Suri alpaca silk lace weight yarn I bought in Loop. It’s called the Bisbis Beret and it has both a 4 ply and Sport weight version in the pattern. (When I say “found a pattern” what I mean is one of my two favourite YouTubers (Tales from Cuckoo Land) has one she made and I’m copying her. 😂)
Jumpers/cardigans
When knitting the rib at the bottom of my Fern and Feather jumper it kept flipping up and so I’m a bit anxious it will do that when I’m wearing it. Hopefully blocking it will sort that once the sleeves are done.
Weaving
Rigid heddle loom
I finished my scarf. Because I have woven it very loosely I am getting quite a bit of movement of the weft and warp but I think blocking it will be very risky because it is so loosely woven. It’s a great length though so that’s good to make a note of that. I used a 2.5 dpi reed on my 10” rigid heddle loom.
In case you missed last week’s post this was made with some handspun Rambouillet and some handspun yak/silk. I had my first go at using my fridge twister tool on this one. Wow oh wow it’s worth every penny it cost. For previous scarves I twisted the fringe myself with my hands and that took forever and my hands hurt for days after.
Other News
I’m hoping next week I may have finished my jumper and made a good start on my beret.
My car has been in the garage getting more repairs done on it. That’s the thing about having a 10 year old car, it just seems one thing after another…this time it’s the air intake fuel valve or something like that. Booooooo! I love my car and I don’t want to get rid of it, at least I have a part time job now that I can pay for all these repairs.

They have and it was funny because the gallery contacted me asking for some new stock ready for Christmas shoppers so I’ll be doing some more felting in November.

I love your scarf. That’s a helpful tip about the fringe twisty thing. Your weaving posts remind me that I don’t do enough weaving. I bought a stupidly large loom and it’s a bit ridiculous in my small house now there are two of us. I feel your pain with the car. Mine’s the same age and it has just passed its MOT but it does need some replacement parts due to corrosion from our very damp sea air. That’s for next months paycheque.

Beautiful scarf and felting. Our cars are over 10 years also, but luckily my DH is a shade tree mechanic. New cars are so expensive these days and we love our current models.

LOVE your felted fairy and gnomes. Wonderful Christmas tree ornaments. Sorry to hear your parttime work has to go to car repairs. Hopefully there will be some leftover for crafting treats. The beret sounds adorable.

Oh look at those little felting items. I love all of them. I need to pull out my Tomte I got in a Swedish village located in the middle of Kansas. They have such wonderful homemade crafts there. Got a Dahl horse there too. I really like that beret pattern. How nice it has both weights of yarn for it. My mom always wanted me to make her a beret but I could never find a pattern I loved. That one would have been great. Good luck getting the jumper done this week. Car repairs are such a pain. But if you love your car it is always worth it.

The fairy is so beautiful!!! How soft is your scarf :). It was very nice of your car to wait to need repair until you had a part time job to afford it :P. I’ve got to take my 13 year old car in for a whirr tapping noise by my front tire, hope its just something loose and nothing major.

Hooray for felted objects – they are adorable as usual. Beautiful weaving project too. That yarn is gorgeous. Good luck with the car repairs. Seems like nothing is very easy or inexpensive to fix these days!

The ornaments are gorgeous I’m glad your mum liked them. I thi think the beret will be lovely in that yarn. And the hand twisted fringe finishes the scarf nicely, so hopefully, will be worth the hand ache!
