YOP13 Week 22/53 – Fairy fast week

This week has flown by…whoosh its Sunday again!!

I’ve signed up to the Snow Matter What Gnome Christmas MKAL and bought a yarn kit! Its superwash and I said I wasn’t buying any more…ah well. It recommends buying a kit with an orange yarn 🤢….obviously I’ve not done that and have bought one with red instead! I hope I find time to keep up with the daily clues in December.

Felting

I’ve done some needle felting! 9 fairies have flown into the Alchemist Gallery Dingwall. They are all Christmassy themed. I just had time to take some quick snaps of them for my records, but forgot the 9th 😢. I know lots of you have seen my fairies before but here’s some new ones.

I didn’t get a chance to wet felt the lampshades I’d laid out last week, but I hope to get those started on Tuesday.

I’ve started 3 gnomes/Tomte whilst on a zoom call but they are just body shapes at the moment and are basically naked 😂

Knitting

Accessories

I made a start on the Pinwheel Mittens pattern. It’s a shame I hadn’t realised that the yarn was 3 ply/light fingering weight…also they use 2.75mm needles which I have as DPNs and I do not like knitting with those and with colour-work especially it’s tricky. We will see how it goes but the chart is super simple so that’s good.

Spinning

At spinning group on Tuesday night I made a start on some Shetland fibre I dyed purple, on my Nano 2, but I have no photo of that.

On Wednesday I managed to do an hour of spinning whilst chatting to a friend, which was lovely, so I have plied the first alpaca/merino colour of my set, but it’s still on the bobbin and not even wound off yet!

I’ll be more organised next week and have some photos!

Other News

Our 15.5 year old dog has been getting left hip/leg issues, so was at the vets this week and back there on Tuesday. They prescribed some human medication for nerve pain. Hard to tell if it or time is making the improvement.

We have scattered rugs and mats on almost all the floors now but she does insist on lying on the gaps of wood laminate and then on Saturday night couldn’t get up from the floor, but she’s able to make it upstairs again now. We will need to pick a few more mats up I think. It looks a bit of a mess with 5 different types and styles and colours of mat in the hallway. In the kitchen and sunroom we bought some washable rugs from Ruggable we are pleased with. Elderly dogs and laminate wood flooring are not a good mix.

Meanwhile my husband has still been coughing a bit and snoozing in front of the TV in the evenings but seems to be getting better from his second brush with Covid (we assume).

Finally, we had yet another storm this week and it blew out the electricity substation that powers our estate (which is a lot of houses). After about 17 hours with no power, they’ve not fixed it but instead have parked a very noisy massive diesel fuel generator that is powering the estate instead!!! It’s pretty close to our house but some friends live right next to it and the smell of the diesel fumes is hitting their house. Fingers crossed this week they will fix it!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 13th year, but this is my 6th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us. (There are 53 Sundays this YOP year, it happens sometimes!).

Year 13 list.

  1. Oh my goodness, what a fun Christmas MKAL! Glad I’m not the only one that jumps into a pattern only the realize it’s not what I thought. That LLC stitch is killing me. Love your fairies. Someone is getting some fun treats. It is sooo tough as our doggies get old. Who cares if the rugs match! Hope hubby feels better soon. Can’t imagine dealing with diesel fumes and the noise would kill me.

  2. WOW! Busy week!
Your fairies are beautiful 🙂 The gnome KAL looks like so much fun – looking forward to seeing your Mr. Gnightly. Hope they get your electricity really fixed sooner rather than later!

  3. I always seeing your fairies. They always bring a smile to my face. That mitt is going to be pretty. Even if it is a bit fiddly. I hope your hubby gets rid of his last bit of the yucky. My office window was next to the emergency generator. I dreaded the monthly runs they did on it. Smelled so nasty. In the 20 years I worked there we only actually used 1 time.

  4. I always love seeing your felted creations – those fairies are some of my favorites! Sounds like a very crafty week, which I’m sure felt really good. Hope your husband continues to be on the mend AND that your power is back on shortly!
