Acquisitions/Collection Curation
My advent calendar from Bluebell Yarns has arrived. Roll on December so I can start opening the little parcels ๐ Its non-superwash, but I’ve forgotten the breed blend I went for.
Knitting
Jumpers/cardigans
My Avena jumper is progressing, I’ve finished the body, although not bound off yet, the sleeves are progressing doing them two at a time. I’ve taken a photo to show the issue in the colourwork section, if blocking doesn’t sort it, it’ll be a wear in the house only jumper. I’m not ripping it out.

Weaving
Inkle loom
I finished my first go at tablet/card weaving.ย By the end my edges were getting really tidy.ย (It needs running over with the steam iron.)ย Once I cut it off the loom I realised the actual pattern was on the other side of the band, which is why it hadn’t been looking like the pattern example.ย ๐

I will use some of this as a bookmark and maybe donate some of it to the Guild as a sample…albeit not a great example.ย When you change direction in the twist you get a weird bump line which you’ll probably spot.ย
I’m going to have a go at a more complicated pattern where you don’t move all the cards in the same direction at the same time. More on that once I’ve made a start. Hopefully I’ll thread that the right way up!
Other News
My first sourdough attempt is in progress. I made the dough yesterday evening and will be cracking on with the next stages today.
I’m not sure I have much else to share. I’ve been very tired most of the week and been taking painkillers in the night again for my arm. I’m so done with it interrupting my sleep. Maybe the weaving makes it worse, I’m not sure.
I started two books the same week, one from the library I read before bed and manage about 2 pages before I nod off. The other book, on my Kindle app, I read during the night when I’ve woken with a sore arm or night sweats. The latter one I finished already, the other one I’ll have to extend my loan at the library. ๐
I’ve got my very first mammogram this week…fingers crossed I’m going to be able to lift my arm enough for the scan.ย Perhaps this has been on my mind and after it I’ll sleep better. I live in hope.
This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, but this is my 7th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as youโd be very welcome to join us.
wow, your Avena jumper is stunning! Well done on card weaving, I’ve done inkle but not yet tablets, though I am fully kitted up. Really sorry for your shoulder, hang in there โค๏ธ

Maybe my having a go will get you started. I had the cards a loooong time before trying it. Easier than Iโd thoughtโฆalbeit I got it upside down somehow.

I’ve also had the cards for a while, running out of excuses…. ๐

I assumed those bumps were part of the pattern. I like the texture they give. And I swapped a bespoke necklace with Becca of Bluebell Yarns for some of her gorgeous wools. Just finished the first project – today’s task is to share the resulting cardy on Instagram. Bet that advent is going to be lush. Enjoy.

Yes thereโs not much you can do about the bumps it seems on asking my guild weaving friends. Iโve had wool from her in the past for a hat I made but not an advent. So Iโm looking forward to it and love itโs not superwash.

I canโt wait to see you wearing your Avena jumper. Itโs such a beautiful color. The yoke is gorgeous! Nice work on the tablet weaving. It looks complicated. I hope your shoulder heals soon, and your mammogram goes well!

The Inkle weaving isnโt complicated once youโve threaded it, just 8 turns one way then 8 turns the other. The threading is a little challenging clearly, since mine was upside down ๐

Your Avena is beautiful! I hope it lays the way you like as it definitely needs to be seen. My hubby can relate to not being able to sleep well due the pain waking you up and not being able to go back to sleep. He still has pain from his knee replacement. Have fun with your sourdough.

Itโs amazing how active a mind can be in the night, Iโve been trying some breathing exercises but really until the painkillers kick back in itโs tough, he has my sympathy.

Average looks so pretty. Hopefully blocking will straighten it out so you can wear it out in public. Your weaving is cute. I can see bookmarks made from it. Perfect! Aches that wake a body up at night are no joke. Neither are night sweats! Hopefully your shoulder will calm down soon. Good luck on your mammogram.

Your Avena is so pretty, I’m not seeing the problem but I hope that blocking will fix it (it tends to fix a lot of things :))
Your tablet weaving is very nice, I’ve never tried it. Do you steek it to cut it?
Did you make sour dough bread?
I hope your shoulder will quit bothering your arm. When I do my mammogram I only lift my arm shoulder height to get your breast on the machine and then you are holding on to the machine. Hate them, I know a man must have invented it :P. I hope your shoulder keeps getting better. I don’t mind hot flashes in the winter, but they are the pits in the summer :P.

Thank you. I did make the sourdough and it was lovely, beginners luck maybe. Iโll post a photo of it on next weekโs post. Iโm not sure how Iโll seal the cotton threads when I cut the strip, Iโm sure Iโll find someone on YouTube to guide me, thatโs how Iโve learned card weaving so far. Thanks for the note about the mammogram, I should hopefully be ok then.

Lots of people are making sourdough bread, sounds yummy, I’ll be awaiting your next post about how it turned out :). I was thinking if you don’t steek it, it might unravel? That would be a catastrophe, all that work!! Let us know what they said about what to do to cut it so it won’t unravel. Good luck on your mammogram!

Well you told me how it turned out, I’m having a duh day :P. Do you have to add to it to keep it alive? or is it one you just make when you will be needing it?

The remainder of the starter is in the fridge resting and will need feeding once a week I think and I take some out to make other things with. I used some of my initial discard from week 1 and 2 of making the starter and baked an apple cake. It’s on Clever Carrot website and was the overnight sourdough apple cake. Delicious. I made it yesterday and baked it today. My husband had 3 portions today of it!

LOL if your honey liked it, it’s gotta be good :). I was asking because I saw someone making a sourdough starter I think on YouTube that you don’t have to take a starter out for the next time.

Beautiful sweater. Lovely weaving. Good luck on your appointment. I have been getting them for quite a few years (my mother was a breast cancer survivor). I think the worry and stress is actually worse than the procedure.

Your Avena is a beauty, and I’m already in love with the colors and the pattern at first sight!! Hope you do get to wear it outside. I like the bumps in your woven band–they must be so tactile, and since they occur at regular intervals, they give a fidget ring (a fidget strip?) vibe. ๐
Good luck for the mammogram! (And also for the sourdough.)

But do you enjoy the tablet weaving? I’ve found it far less satisfying than plain inkle weaving.

Too early to say at the moment. I’d like to do the next one where you move some cards one way and some the other

Your Avena and tablet weaving strip are both lovely! Good for you getting your mammo done! It isn’t fun, but it is important. I hope your shoulder is somewhat better as well ๐

The weaving pattern is lovely and I quite like the bumps. I hope blocking worked its magic and the jumper is wearable everywhere because it’s gorgeous!
