YOP15 Week 19/52 – Finished cowl and jumper cast on

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

My fibre hasn’t arrived from World of Wool yet, so nothing to show yet.

We stopped at a local craft fair last Sunday and I bought a big log basket for keeping my knitting project bags in.  My emotional support chickens have decided that’s where they’d like to hang out between cuddles..can you see a space where a 3rd one would go!?

Knitting

I finished my Little Gemstones Cowl and posted about it on Friday.  I then immediately cast on a smaller version, so that there will be one hugging my neck and the other decorative, so it will look like a longer cowl looped round.

Talking of casting on, I have made a start on my second Selfish Pullover.  (Link to first one.)

This time I have started with a provisional cast-on neck and I am trying the size down from last time.  The yarn is the same as my first, New Lanark’s Chunky, just in different colours (Cherry and New Natural).  It should look quite festive.

I did think about trying to change the pattern on the colourwork section, but I don’t think I have those skills yet

Weaving

Inkle loom

I warped up my new Lojan Tablet weaving inkle loom.  I am making another pair of shoelaces.  This time in a wavy pattern.   The yarn is fine mercerised cotton in a pale blue and dark green.

Having taken this photo and uploaded it, I spot something doesn’t look right …I will investigate later today!

Other News

I have wasted a lot of time this week not doing anything. Some laundry has been done and I cleaned part of the bathroom but really could do with giving the whole house a good clean. Parrot dust (dander) is quick to build up if you don’t keep regularly dusting. The low sun is proving a nightmare too…I am pretty sure I haven’t washed our windows since Spring and no-one else does them!

Hopefully next week I can snap out of the slump and get on with things. I seem to go from doing 5,000 things in one week to being a couch potato the next 🥔 🛋️. I am sure I am not alone.

We had our Guild meeting yesterday which was good. I’ve been feeling quite lonely recently, so it was nice to chat to lots of the members there.

Onwards and upwards next week!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 15th year, but this is my 8th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.

Year 15 list.

  1. The shoe laces are soo cute. Had to search and search and still not sure of the “error” (a bar instead of a dot along one of the edges???) Your knitting basket is very cute and perfect for the hens. Hmmm, I’m still waiting on the moments of intense activity. I’m a couch potato every day. 😉

  2. What a great basket! Your chickens look quite comfy in there too. But, seriously, I do think they need another friend to join them. The new sweater is such pretty colors. Yes, it looks quite festive. This shoe laces look good to me. But then, I am not a weaver so probably would not notice a small boo boo. I hear you about energy. I am gung ho on Monday and Tuesday and then take the rest of the week to ‘recover’. Sometimes I get lucky and there is a bit of energy left on Wednesday LOL. I am sure your decreased daylight time has a lot to do with your slump and also your feeling of loneliness.

  3. You are most certainly not alone. I can go from spending hours, days even, busily making things to hours watching YouTube, wishing I felt motivated. Ugh. It can be a real trap for me. I love your emotional support chickens. I agree, there is room for at least one more. ;^)

  4. The woven basket is an awesome place for your project bags and your chickens to rest in :).

I look forward to your progress on your cowl 🙂

I love your shoe laces, they are beautiful!!

You are not alone, I go through those periods of no motivation, more often in the fall and winter, as we get less sun shine. But it eventually it picks back up as the days get longer again. I always look forward to the winter solstice when the days gain light slowly again. The next few weeks I don’t have time to not do anything, guess the Lord knew I needed a push, lol. But we all have times when functioning is hard, and we don’t even want to do the things we love, some kind of crafting or sewing, anything you usually love doing. So take the time to take care of yourself, even if it’s just sitting there listening to music or watching a knitting or crocheting podcast :).

  5. I really feel like you need that third chicken to get out of your slump. Your new sweater is going to be so perfect for holiday cheerfulness or in the gloomy gray of January. You have had a busy fall – I think you’re entitled to some down time in order to recharge!

  6. I’d been a couch potato after my busy phase at work, before slowly picking up things that needed doing–you’re definitely not alone, and I hope you enjoy the potato phase if you can. 🙂 Your emotional support chickens actually look like they’re waiting with bated breath for their new friend, haha…
