Year of Project – July 2026 – June 2027 Starting List (week 1/52)

This is my 9th year taking part in the Year of Projects group, who are in their 16th year.

People come and go but there are still some original members. If you would be interested in joining the group then please see the link at the bottom of this post for the Ravelry Group where you can introduce yourself and find instructions about sharing your weekly posts.

Just a heads up, there’s a lot of repetition from last year because I have carried a lot over.

Key:
↪️ carried over from a previous YOP year
*️⃣ started previous YOP year
✳️ started this YOP year

As the year progresses these will also be used:
✅ finished 🏁 week finished
🆕 added after week 1
‼️ abandoned
⏸️ on hold
🐸 frogged

NB. There are links to the Ravelry pattern or project page.

This year I have re-introduced Painting as a category because I would like to make some artwork for my newly decorated bedroom.

I am keeping my overall objective from last year, which is to make the most of the stash I already have. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by how much fibre and yarn I have and I would really like to make the most by creating more finished objects.

Make the most of the yarn, fibre and other craft supplies that I have in my craft room.

Acquisitions/Collection Curation

  • NO new yarns, unless I run out 😂.
  • No new fibre, unless I have used up 2 Kallax cubes worth.

Booknook

  • Rolife Henry’s Chocolate kit

Crochet

  • One project, I am considering a blanket using up handspun…but if my one project is just a dishcloth or doily that’s ok too.

Dyeing

  • ↪️Practice microwave acid dyeing.

Felting

  • Ylva *️⃣YOP9!…How crazy is it that I started this in year 9 and we are now in year 16!
  • Handbag (or bowl) using felting ball *️⃣YOP11…I really would like to do this and not sure why it’s taking so long to just give it a go.
  • Larger seascape pendant lampshade for bedroom…now my room is freshly decorated it would be nice to have a larger lampshade.
  • Bedroom bin…fibres have been prepped.

Knitting

  • Finish WIPs
    • ADVENTure Gnome *️⃣YOP14 Wk19
    • Smaller verion of Little Gemstones Cowl *️⃣YOP15
    • Hitchhiker by Martina Behm using handspun BFL & silk *️⃣started YOP15wk49
  • Frog my Pinwheel Mittens *️⃣YOP13 wk22, 1st 🏁YOP13 wk37…The delay in knitting the 2nd mitten is that mitten 1 is too tight! So why make a 2nd. I need to frog the 1st mitten and see how the lace weight yarn copes with that and then re-evaluate what I am doing next with the yarn.
  • Make husband something with green New Lanark yarn ↪️YOP13
  • One pair of mittens from the book Tantulltussmittens ↪️YOP14
  • Dish cloths
  • Emotional Support Chicken(s) using handspun to donate
  • 3 items from Ravelry queue
  • Socks

Painting

  • Make artwork for my bedroom…I am not sure if this will be abstract or a seascape or landscape. I have acrylic paints and a canvas and some practice boards too.

Sewing

  • Make an item of clothing ↪️YOP13…another task that has been on my list for a while. I have put quite a lot of weight on since I bought the pattern and material 3 years ago, perhaps it wouldn’t now fit if I had made it then.

Spinning

  • ✳️Tour de Fleece 2026…this started yesterday.
  • January Spin Challenge 2027
  • Other spinning

Weaving

Dorset Buttons
  • Christmas Garland kit
  • Ad hoc buttons
8-Shaft and Rigid Heddle Looms
  • 3 heddle project that I have converted from a 4 shaft pattern, on my 32” rigid heddle loom (RHL)
  • New set of Diamond Stripe Tea Towels on 32” RHL
  • Projects on new 8 shaft loom!
  • Projects using larger cones stash:

    • Shetland
    • Aran weight cotton
Inkle Loom

  • Blue shades belt
Tapestry
  • Tapestry weaving project ↪️YOP13

Other News

This has been quite an exhausting week, luckily I had already drafted this post a few weeks ago. We are looking after a dog for a couple of weeks, plus I have worked 5 not 3 days to help cover holidays at work. Same next week, but hopefully my body will be in less shock 😂.

I also had to find time to re-grout and put new sealant on our upstairs shower this week. When it’s dry we need to see if this has fixed the leak we were getting on the ceiling downstairs. 🤞🏻 Then I need to deal with painting the ceiling!

The camera equipment, I was going to sell, got such a low valuation so I collected it before work one day and decided to keep the camera but will give away some of the accessories and extras.

I went along to the first book club meeting, the group is for ladies over 40 and the books are to encourage healthier minds and bodies. We covered “This Book May Save Your Life” by Dr Karan Rajan. (No huge revelations from it).

It is a really lovely group of ladies though and so lovely to have met them and chat so freely with people we had just met.  Next up is “Atomic Habits” which I have listened to twice in previous years but I am reading with my eyes this time to see if I retain it better!

Oh and I had to collate our Guild’s newsletter too!  And Tour de Fleece started yesterday with a lovely call with spinning friends.

Last weekend Alissa, from Alissa Makes blog, wrote a post saying “For someone like me, I think more is more. I do better with more irons in the fire. I can pick and choose, and I will be more productive.” This gave me an Aha! moment, when I had solely been concentrating on just decluttering I lost all my energy, productivity and joy. Like Alissa I need to mix it up, have many options and having realised this just in time for YOP16 so I am hoping for a really successful year. Saying that, this week had a bit too much going on.

Finally, as this post is a bit lacking in photos, a few weeks ago I frogged a pair of socks that had shrunk and slightly felted, the yarn nests looked so pretty. I soaked the yarn but it’s still crinkly. This is pre-washing.

This was a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group has just finished its 16th year, my 9th year participating. If you would like to find more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, as you’d be very welcome to join us.
